Hike Maui has been offering hiking for years and is the oldest hiking company on the island. The owner and founder is Ken Schmidt and he started the company by giving the tours himself. He comes from a serious background in academia where he graduated with a graduate degree in Oriental sciences. Shortly thereafter he made a trip to Maui and totally fell in love. He began doing hikes everywhere and became totally versed in all the flora and fauna on the island and all the geology and history as well. He began doing a few hikes with visitors and they were so well received that he decided to make a career out of hiking on Maui. He has since taught many others to become hiking instructors and he has hired many naturalists and his seemingly countless vans can be seen all over the island taking clients to see remarkable areas of the island.
