"The Big Island" of Hawaii Sunset Sails & Cruises

One of the great time-honored and true Hawaii activities you could enjoy is the sunset sail.

I vividly remember the first activity I did as a visitor to Hawaii was a sunset sail and the experience of that ocean adventure really set me up for a love affair with Hawaii.

Big Island of Hawaii sunset sails are obviously held during the sunset hours and generally speaking the winds have a tendency to "die down" during this time into a gentle breeze.

These are not typically vigorous sails that stretch the capabilities of your sailboat but are rather more relaxing or soothing as gentle breezes waft you along at a more casual speed.

Hawaii sunset sails are all about relaxation usually in conjunction with some appealing appetizers and an accompanying libation.

Big Island of Hawaii sunset sails are certainly suitable for children but I rather think about them as more romantic in nature, perhaps just for the two of you.

The colors at sunset time during what Hollywood calls the "golden hour" paint a shimmer of color not only upon the horizon and the setting sun but also behind you as you view back at the Big Island itself with its towering volcanoes shrouded in a halo of clouds.

Big Island sunset times provide a time of romance and togetherness that are often missing from many Big Island adventures.

These are time when you can not only appreciate the sunset sail itself but be able to reflect on the larger scope of things as your connection to the real world dissolves in the lapping sounds of the ocean gently splashing against the keel and the sound of gentle winds filling the sails above.

Well, you're on vacation in the Big Island. There's tons of activities for you to do, lots of adventure, lofts of excitement. You've been ziplining and you've been hiking and you've been ATVing and doing all kinds of things that are very, very adventurous and energetic, and maybe it's time to slow down a little bit and do one of the more relaxing activities that we have.

Sunset sail. These are a delight. These are not a dinner cruise. A dinner cruise and a sunset sail are different in the sense that ... a dinner cruise has a dinner and a sunset sail doesn't. Sunset sails are just going to be including some cocktails, Mai Tais, beer, wine, that sort of thing. Every boat is a little bit different. It may be a sailboat, but maybe a cruise. You may be cruising and just looking out at the sunset and so on. You'll have probably some pupus or Hawaiian hors d'oeuvres and it'll just be a time to relax and enjoy the colors as the sun sets and just kind of set the mood for the evening.

I always think that these are just a great thing to do before you go to dinner. Just do a sunset sail. You get off the boat and then go over to your favorite restaurant and have your reservations for that. Makes for a wonderful evening. These are one of the ways to wind down, to really feel like you're soaking in the tropical splendor of Hawaii, and I think that you should have a night that you just reserve for something simple and quiet like a sunset sail. Taking a Hawaii sunset cruise may prove to be the most romantic and relaxing moments of your vacation. Sunset cruises probably won't rank high on your list of adventure items on your trip but may instead be the simple ending to a perfect day.

A Kauai sunset sail or Kauai sunset cruise is a good call for any evening of your vacation but perhaps the very best time would be your last evening on the island for a fond farewell.

A variation of the dinner sunset cruise is what is fondly referred to in Hawaii as the "booze cruise". This usually includes just "pupus" (appetizers) and an open bar plus entertainment.

Many vessels on Maui can take you on a sunset cruise, most leaving from Lahaina harbor. Catamarans, sloops, schooners, and even power vessels - no matter what boat on Maui you take, one thing is certain, it will be the beginning of an evening you will remember for a long time to come.
