Big Island ATV Tours

Big Island ATV Tours are ranked high up on the food chain of similar Hawaii ATV Tours.  It is no accident that the very first Hawaii ATV tours were launched right here on the Big Island.  It is one thing to drive your car into a particular area of the island but it is a completely different story to take an ATV off-road into the jungles, along cliffs and deep into sacred valleys where you are totally immersed in the terrain, flora, fauna and history of these beautiful areas.  The fact that we can in most cases offer you discounted pricing for these ATV rides makes the experience all that more pleasurable.

What areas can you visit on your Big Island ATV Tours?

  • The Northern Coast of the Big Island near the town of Hawi is the gateway to the amazingly beautiful Kohala forest region.  This is the area that was the birthplace of King Kamehameha and it is a region laden with Hawaiian culture, legend and fabulous stories of Hawaii's past.  A series of ATV routes can be chosen at varying price points that can skirt the coastal region, drive into the forests or drive even deeper into the forests.  Your guides here are extremely experienced and this is guaranteed to be a fabulous adventure.
  • In the Mountain View area in the vicinity of the live volcano you will find a 220 acre cattle ranch that used to be an area used for the Puna sugar plantations of a bygone era.  An ATV ride in this area will criss-cross the ranch as guides will share the rich history of its past.

Pride of America Cruise Ship:

Hawaii ATV Tours do not pick up at the Cruise Ship Dock either in Hilo or in Kona. Tom Barefoot's Tours can arrange to have you picked up by a Rental Car shuttle at the dock and you can drive to the departure location for your Hawaii ATV tour.

This particular video segment's going to be about ATV rides on the Big Island. The Big Island was the very first place in all of Hawaii that we ever did any type of ATV rides. There's a reason for that. It's a great place to do this. We have a few companies that do ATV rides, but the very first and original one is still there and operational. Let me show you where it is. All of your ATV experiences, at least at this point in time, are up in this area. They're going to be away from the general population area, so you're going to have to drive to them in most cases.

This area up here is called Hawi, very, very, very beautiful area along the coast up here, little town, really quaint, beautiful. Behind it is the giant Kohala Forest. The tours that we have, actually there are a number of tours with a particular company that we have up here that are kind of like small, medium, large, kind of ... Baby bear, mama bear, papa bear type. The shorter ones just go along the coast. They're obviously not as long. Beautiful views of the coastline.

The second two go more back up into the forest area and you're really going back for miles in the longer one. If you really want to have an opportunity to get out back and really see some of what the real forested areas of the Big Island look like, ATV rides up here are really the ticket. This is really one of the major functions of the ATV rides is that they can get you into these places that you really can't get to any other way. Not even regular roads will take you back there, so you've got a vehicle that is designed for this purpose and they make excellent, excellent tours.

Another area that we have is on the other side over here. There's a big valley we have. Very, very famous, called Waipio Valley. This was the place where many, many, hundreds and hundreds and thousands of Hawaiians lived in the days of the Hawaiians, a beautiful valley that provided them with all the sustenance they needed to live in there. They had just beautiful systems that were so aligned with nature that allowed them to grow what they needed to grow and to fish off the coast and to have their river that they came down and provided them with their water and so on.

Anyway, this is a place that you will visit on this ATV ride. It kind of rides the rim of Waipio Valley, so you're up on the top and it's about a three hour ride, something like that, and you'll have an opportunity to jump into some water in a pool at the end of the ride, so that's an option for you. You're going to be cruising right up to a 1,200 foot waterfall that you can see across the distance of the valley. That is a beautiful sight, then also the black sand beach down below, you'll see at a distance. You really get a viewpoint for the Waipio Valley and spend some time there and really get to enjoy this really Hawaiian place.

These are some options that we have for ATV tours, if you're the kind of outdoor, adventurous person that wants to get out there and cruise on an ATV, we've got that for you on the Big Island. If you have any questions about tours or activities in Hawaii, just give us a call, or check out tombarefoot.com. We're here to help.

Hawaii ATV tours are exciting and they are a popular choice among all the Hawaii adventure tours! ATV tours on Hawaii are not considered particularly new as a category of activity but they did come out of obscurity in one instant in the 1990's and then spread like wildfire to all the major islands of Hawaii.

In the past All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) were a popular way to get around on Maui, either on or off the road. These days the traffic laws do not permit ATV's to be ridden on the roads or highways and access to many private off road areas is limited.
