Surf Lessons

Hawaii Surf Schools are Available on All Hawaiian Islands.

Hawaii surf schools offer surf lessons in Hawaii, Maui, Oahu and Kauai.

The popularity of these schools is becoming even greater with every passing year as new surf schools open up and older surf schools expand to include more products.

The reason behind the increased popularity of "Hawaii surfing lessons" is self evident.

Hawaii surfing is fun, it is becoming increasingly popular on TV as the Hawaii surf events have been televised more frequently to a national audience, the sport of surfing has developed newer forms of equipment that have allowed surfers to surf larger, more adventurous and more dangerous waves and finally, the introduction of stand-up paddling has caused a great surge in the numbers of people wanting to sign up with Hawaii surf schools.

Hawaii surfing has come a long way since its origins with the Hawaiians in the days long before the arrival of Captain Cooke.

It is surmised that the Hawaiians probably initially discovered the concept of surfing as they caught a first ride on driftwood or tried to navigate their canoes through or around the surf.

Certainly the majority of activities the Hawaiians were involved in regarding the ocean were designed around practical purposes dealing with transportation or the gathering and fishing for food but surfing at one point became a sport which was indulged in strictly for the fun of it.

It may have been a practical way for them to get back onto shore after setting there fishing nets but however its exact origin this soon became seen as a fun activity or sport which the early days was reserved solely for the enjoyment of the "Alii" or upper class of Hawaiian society.

By the time of the missionaries the sport had already spread to the lower classes and there were recorded sightings of missionaries marveling at the ease and grace of seeing the Hawaiians oddly appear to be standing upon the water as they surfed into the shore.

Modern Surfing Techniques Have Changed Considerably Over The Years.

Surfing became a popular sport on the beaches of Waikiki in the days of Duke Kahanamoku and the original Hawaiian Beach Boys who rode their huge wooden surfboards but the true renaissance in Hawaii surfing did not come about until the early 1950's when the new fiberglass surfboards became available to the general public in a large way.

Suddenly avid surfers from California and the mainland were heading to Hawaii in search of the more consistent and warmer surf conditions.

With the normal surf in Hawaii came the huge winter swells on the North Shores of each island and this then became a challenge to master as well.

With waves having faces over 30' in height the daring surfers who risked their lives in the pursuit of the "single perfect ride" caught the imagination of the world and Hawaii surfing became a well known sport everywhere on the planet.

Today the surfing innovations continue non-stop and since the beginning of the 2000's the surfing attention has been focused on enormous waves thought to be unsurfable in years past but have been conquered do to the use of Jet Skis which pull the surfer into these mammoth rollers so they can be traveling 'at speed' when they get to the sweet spot of the wave.

Surfers have been known to ride waves at "Jaws" on Maui using such a method with a wave face height of over 70' All this has led to the great popularity of surfing today and Hawaii surf schools will teach all that have the inclination to learn the basics of the sport and develop their passion for a sport that is truly 'addictive'.

Obviously the waves that Hawaii surf lessons are taught on are small at first and Hawaii has the reputation of almost always having waves of suitable size to allow for teaching the sport.

It is with great fanfare that many Hawaii surf schools pride themselves in being able to get their clients up and standing on their first surfing lesson in Hawaii and this is usually the case.

Many Hawaii surf school students choose to rent a surfboard for days after and perfect their newly acquired skills.

"Stand Up" Paddling Is Now All The Rage!

The latest adaptation in the world of surf innovation has been the development of the stand-up paddle board.

This is not so much used in the catching of waves (though it can be) but is instead used on calm or flat areas of the ocean where a participant will stand with feet firmly planted on a large surfboard and use a paddle to propel himself along the surface.

Although this may not provide the thrills of traditional surfing it does provide a fantastic way to get in shape and it is highly touted as a way to develop your 'core' muscles around the waist.

This also provides a great way to enjoy the ocean on a daily outing and have a great vantage point from which to observe Hawaii sea life.

This is great exercise and is now a daily routine of many Hawaii residents and is taught by many Hawaii surf schools.
