On Maui, a landmark activity is the Sugar Cane Train. This train has been operating since the early 1970's, and is a replica of the narrow gauge trains that were used here in the early days of the sugar plantations to haul the sugar cane from the outlying crop areas to the central mill to be harvested. Today, this train takes passengers from Lahaina to Kaanapali and returns about four times a day. You'll learn much about the old days when sugar was king in Hawaii, and have a picturesque view of the beautiful coastline as well. If you are traveling with children, this is one of the very best activities you could take them on.
