My grandfather was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the war. I’d like to go visit but is it best to do so with a tour or on my own?

Either way you visit Pearl Harbor will work. Taking a tour might be the easiest option as you won’t have to negotiate any of the Oahu traffic to get there. If you go on your own you will want to get there early. There is always a line of folks waiting to get out to the Arizona Memorial and there will be a certain amount of “hanging around” time. Luckily there is plenty to see at the museums there. If you really want to get the whole Pearl Harbor experience you should make sure you get onto the Battleship Missouri and the USS Bowfin submarine and visit the Pacific Aviation Museum.
