Helicopter and Motion Sickness?

I am interested in booking a helicopter tour but I have never been on a helicopter and I am worried about getting sick. I occasionally get motion sickness while in a back seat of a car. Could you please tell me what's the approximate rate of people getting sick on these kind of tours?

Answer

There are some great ways to fight the battle of motion sickness for the short time that you'd be in the helicopter. First I'd recommend doing the 45 minute flights from Hilo, and a doors off flight gives you alot of fresh air which helps alot, The rate of people that do get sick is very low, it's quite rare as the movements of the copter are deliberately smooth and one of the companies we use gives you ginger candy to nibble on. Anything with ginger for before the trip, ginger candy, ginger ale, ginger cookes, all help. Bonine is popular, it's similar to Dramamine but doesn't make you drowsy and can be taken right at the time of the situation.
