Volcano Sunset Lava Walk - Hilo - Nui Pohaku Adventure Tours

Starting at: $179.00

Now hiking to both the Active Lava Flow Front and the Ocean Lava Entry, with the shortest hiking distance available - just over 1 3/4 miles each way! Experience two tours in one day - visit the park first and then the lava in the Puna area!
Experience the most Kilauea Volcano has to offer! Explore the Volcanoes National Park with an intimate size group and then travel down to the Puna Coast to view the lava activity (past/present or both) on the backside of Kilauea Volcano. Once you arrive at the park, an experienced guide will lead you on a short leisurely hike through lush rain forests alive with native birds, incredible foliage and a "walk through" lava tube. Explore hidden overlooks off the beaten path and witness the explosive power of Halema'uma'u Crater. Take in the beauty of Kilauea Iki and Kilauea Caldera and enjoy a stop at the Jaggar Museum with its real time seismographs, eruption footage and beautiful displays of lava and Hawaiian geology. After the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park we will journey to the Puna area - a beautiful area that is in the middle of the rainforest and still untouched by much development. You will witness firsthand the creation and devastation the lava has brought to this area over the last 50 years - villages destroyed and new land created. You will then travel down the "Red Road" where the scenery is amazing as you weave through the rainforest and take in the jagged cliffs overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Walk out to the new black sand beach at Kaimu, which has forever been changed by the lava flows in the early 1990's. Depending on the volcanic activity at the time of the tour, we will try to locate "flow or glow" either at the coast or with a trip up to Halema'uma'u Crater. A pool of lava below the surface creates glow in one of two main vents. Our tour guides specialize in taking the "road less traveled" through the Puna area to show you wonderful sights that most travelers never see on their own or with any other tour companies. Throughout the tour your guide will share with you history and geology of the area during the frequent stops along the way - an exciting and active way to spend the day discovering how lava has changed our land forever.

Ian McCormick
Nice way to spend the day and learn about Hawaiian landscape, history and
volcanology. We were lucky as we were the only ones booked on the tour that day
and it is run by a small family business which is evident in the personable
guides. There are some amazing views to be had throughout the day and the lava
beach is a surreal view. The advertising is a bit misleading though as you don't
actually get anywhere near the active lava flow at the Puna coast but the view
of the Kilauea crater at night is amazing.

Great tour, with very knowledgeable guides. For me, seeing the active lava flow was the highlight on the Big Island. Highly recommend!

Fantastic! Amanda and Deric were great guides and gave us a wonderful tour. They were very knowledgeable and answered all questions. I always wanted to see an active volcano and we did! The night tour with the lava going into the ocean was amazing! This was one of the best excursions we've been on!
