Volcano Sunset Lava Walk - Hilo - Nui Pohaku Adventure Tours
Your day begins with a fully narrated drive from the Hilo area to the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. Experience all that the Kilauea Volcano has to offer. Explore the Volcanoes National Park with an intimate sized group, then travel down to the Puna Coast to view the lava on the active side of Kilauea Volcano. Once you arrive at the park, an experienced guide will lead you on short leisurely hikes through lush rain forests alive with native birds, incredible foliage and a walk through lava tube. Explore hidden overlooks off the beaten path and witness the explosive power of Halema'uma'u Crater. Enjoy a stop at the Jagger Museum with its real time seismographs, eruption footage and beautiful displays of lava and Hawaiian geology. Travel down the Red Road, where the scenery is amazing, as you weave through the rain forest and take in the jagged cliffs overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Walk out to the new black sand beach at Kaimu, which has forever been changed by the lava flows in the early 1990s. Next, your guide will take you on a short hike over the lava fields to view the incredible molten lava streaming down the mountain from the Pu'u 'O'o vent. See lava in motion as it descends down to the sea. As the sun sets, you will experience a dramatic change in the landscape as the fire from the sea becomes alive in the darkness of this remote area. Throughout the tour, your guide will share with you history and geology of the area during the frequent stops along the way. This is an exciting and active way to spend the day discovering how lava has changed our land forever.
