We had a great time in Hawaii! We really enjoyed the Four Winds and snorkeling. Although, the water was too rough at Molokini and we snorkeled off of West Maui. We traveled to Molokini but turned around and went back. We did see several whales :)....but no dolphins :(
I hadn't snorkeled in so long, and now I want to do it again! Thanks for your advice.
What a wonderful time. Unfortunately it was blowing about 20-30 miles an hour that day so we were unable to go out to Molokini but it sure didn't take the fun out of the day. The crew took us to Coral Gardens along the Pali coast. It was unbelievable as to how close the vessel was able to anchor off shore and we got to snorkel. Tons of beautiful fish and we even had a baby turtle swimming around the entire time we were there. The crew was fantastic. Great food and drinks. One crew member made fresh ginger ale which was delicious. On the way home they cruised out toward the island of Kahoolawe because the saw some whales heading our way. We also lingered near by McGregors Point because the water was "Littered" with turtles showing off for us. What a great trip. I highly recommend the Four Winds with Maui Classic Charters!
Very excellent trip.
An excellent crew and Capt. Molokini was not in the plans due to high winds. However, no lack of excitement with some whale watching and snorkeling by Lahaina. Great food and drinks.
The Four Winds II trip was the highlight of our trip to Maui. Terrific experience and really fun. From the beginning the pier where they dock is a lovely experience and the boat immaculate. The crew is friendly, helpful and genuine. Getting there so early is a chore, but being greater with really great bagels, cream cheese, coffee and fruit on a beautiful morning was a welcome surprise that set the day. The snorkeling was good, but the true treat was seeing whales on the way back. The captain told some good stories, and actually stopped the boat and put down a sound system so we could hear and then see whales. I will remember that forever. Everybody liked the tour. Also the lunch, prepared by the crew was really delicious and it was super that you could have as much as you wanted. They also had drinks on board. What more would anyone want or need! Wonderful ride, great people, truly hospitable, and fun. Hope to come back and do it again. Aloha and Mahalo, Kendall
This is in our opinion the best. The staff is very qualified an helpful. Jake was the best, but all the staff was helpful to my daughter and husband who is 82 years old. They were patient with him getting in and out of the water. We would give this tour a 5 star on everything including Capt. John.
Very nice trip. Good food and tons of fun!
The staff saw very welcoming. We had a fantastic time. We will do this one again!
We had a great time!!! We were hoping to snorkel in Molokini but because of the bad weather the last couple of days on Maui...Captain John took us to Coral Gardens instead. Good choice. The fish were everywhere and the water was crystal clear. The Four Winds crew always show their passengers onboard a great time with plenty of food and drink...and always there to help you if needed. This is our second snorkel tour on the Four Winds II and we will definitely go again!!
Fun was had by all! the water was really choppy lots of sea sickness wish it would have been a calmer day but the crew and trip itself were GREAT!!!
Unfortunately, our experience was not as positive as we had hoped. The crew was certainly super friendly but we were of the impression that the staff would be helpful with the snorkeling. A short 5 minutes of instruction was provided but it was provided in an area that not all passengers could fit into so that could use improving. We were also of the understanding that they were equipped to handle non-swimmers and this was not the case. My husband was given a "floaty belt" and put off the boat. As he is not a swimmer this was uncomfortable to say the least. I helped him back to the ladder to get him back on the boat where one of the crew told him no. I said 'he doesn't swim and needs back on the boat" to which we were given a regular boogie board and told to float. This also wasn't helpful so I got him to the stairs on the back of the boat and helped him up. The only staff that were in the water were the photographer (who never did get a picture of me and the girls) and the instructor for the SNUBA (who made me tread water for over 5 minutes so his students could board the boat - bear in mind I am a middle aged woman). We never did get to snorkel at the crater (the captain deemed the water too rough even though other groups were doing it) so what we were able to see was significantly less than what we were expecting. Sadly, we really didn't receive an experience that measured up to the price we paid.
The captain and crew were great, but I would not go on this trip again. We were not able to go to Molokini because of the weather which I actually appreciated. We were not told that until we were already on the boat and had left the dock. I was stuck with no choice but to go on a cruise that took us to a cove next to the freeway. The water was still too rough. I basically sat on a boat watching the clock for hours Again, crew was great. I would have liked a choice of going or not given the change in schedule.
Outstanding trip. Attentive and accommodating crew.
We had an excellent time on the Four Winds snorkel experience to Molokini
Crater. Our trip began by being offered a wide variety of muffins, coffee
and juices as we departed the Marina towards Molokini Crater. As we slowed
down just outside the crater, we spotted several bottlenose dolphins swimming
close to the boat. The captain paused our trip long enough for everyone to
see the dolphins and snap pictures. Unlike other reviewers, we were able
to anchor in Molokini Crater basin. We opted to rent the 'wetsuit' - which
for adults is just the upper top portion - for $5.00 as I chill very easily. The
wind in Maui was brisk the entire time we were there so I wanted the extra layer
of warmth to make sure the water temperature did not detour our experience. I am
glad I did but my husband thinks he would have been fine without it. We
brought our own snorkel gear and we were able to immediately enter the water
once the all clear was given. The clarity in the water was AMAZING!
However, the initial entry into the water was choppy (unlike most Caribbean
destinations) so it took a few minutes to get used to the feel of the water and
the motion around me but once I got oriented things were fine. We sighted
several Moray Eels, a wide variety of wrasse, triggerfish, butterflyfish and
tangs (yellow tang was the most popular by far), Durgeon, Needlefish,
Unicornfish, Sergeant Majors, and parrotfish. We did not see any rays or
barracuda while we were there - which was fine by me as we see those often in
the Florida and Caribbean waters where we snorkel routinely. The boat
spent about 2 hours anchored in the crater area. While we were in the water the
crew were grilling chicken on the bar-b-que grills on the vessel and some of the
younger guests were using the slide on the back of the ship to enjoy the water.
One comment would be regarding the timing for lunch as it was offered
while we were anchored - so we had to manage our snorkeling time accordingly in
order to have the lunch that was being provided along with the excursion.
Chocolate Chip Cookies were offered as a snack when we left our spot in the
crater and headed back to the Marina. The official photographer seemed to focus
on the people that decided to Snuba as we recognized the folks on the images as
being those that were briefed on the Snuba gear. Overall, we enjoyed
the experience and the extra benefit of staying in crater for the entire trip as
it gave us ample time to see a lot of sea life and enjoy our lunch.
