Kilauea Iki Crater Hike - Hawaiian Walkways
On your drive to Volcanoes National Park, a Japanese and English speaking guide will explain the history of Kona, the volcanoes, the Paniolo history, and other stories as taught to your guide by elder Kupuna. There may be a stop or two along the way depending on time, Upon arrival to the Iki Crater Trail Head, you will be given a backpack, bottled water, walking sticks and rain gear if needed. Your professional guide will escort you to a hiking trail along the edge of the crater for about a half hour then descend into Iki Crater. During the hike, you will have the opportunity to view the beautiful surrounding environment and we will head to the floor of the crater and spend time taking in the sights and sounds and walk across the crater floor. Next we go to Thurston's Lava Tube and have lunch. After the tube walk, we will drive to Mauna Ulu. There you will be escorted up to the edge of this amazing crater giving you information as to its formation as explained to us by Park Rangers. We will follow the rules set forth by the Park as how to ascend and descend the Crater.
