Bird Watch Rainforest and Dry Forest - Hawaii Forest and Trail
For the expert and the beginner. Come along and explore two rare habitats, the cloud mist Kipuka rain forest on Mauna Loa and the sub alpine dry forest of Pu'u La'au on Mauna Kea. Here are two places that represent Hawaii before human contact; places where there are plants and birds found nowhere else on earth. Reveal the evolutionary epic of the islands. Operates: Monday-Friday. Approximate times 6:30am to 6:30pm.
Departure Point: Departs from Waikoloa Queens Shops, highway 190/200 junction and Hawaii Forest and Trail Headquarters.
Duration: Morning trips departing weekdays only (except holidays). 11-12 hours round-trip.
Equipment: Walking sticks, binoculars, day packs, warm wear and rain ponchos.
Capacity: Minimum of 6 to confirm a tour - maximum 12.
Deli style sandwich - Choice of ham, turkey, tuna or roast beef, lettuce, tomato and swiss cheese on whole wheat kaiser roll.
Veggie sandwich - Lettuce, tomato, carrot, cucumber, zucchini and swiss cheese.
Inclusions: A continental breakfast of fresh island fruit, locally baked banana breads and pound cakes, 100% pure Kona Coffee, teas, hot chocolate and juices. Lunch is a deli-style sandwich, chips, cookie, sodas and juices.
Serves Alcohol: There is not any alcohol available during the activity.

Handicapped Accessible: This tour is not suitable for handicapped individuals.
Required Certifications: The participant is not required to have any certification or special license in order to participate.
What to Bring: It is recommended that you bring a camera with you. We suggest bringing your camera in a ziplock bag in case you need to protect it from the elements. It is required that everyone wears closed toed shoes on this activity. We recommend that everyone in your group brings sunglasses. We recommend that everyone in your group brings warm clothes.
Restrictions: Children whose age is less than eight years old are not permitted on this activity. People who do not have a moderate level of physical fitness will not be permitted on this activity. Cancellations of this reservation cannot be made within seventy-two hours of the scheduled check in time. There is a possibility that you and/or belongings may get wet.
Guests should not be physically challenged or unable to hike on uneven or rocky terrain. Sometimes encounters cool, wet or muddy conditions. Must be able to do short hikes of 1.5 to 4 miles. Cancellation policy for more than 10 guests is 14 days. Group rates are 10 people per van plus a $125.00 gratuity per vehicle. This activity is not accessible by wheelchair or walker. This tour has a 72 hour cancellation policy. This means that once you're within 72 hours of the start time, the tour the tour is non refundable. If you choose to cancel before this time, the standard 10% cancellation fee will apply. If the vendor needs to cancel your tour because of weather, a mechanical issue or any other reason you will receive a 100% refund of the price you paid.
