Too expensive for that short a trip. Also, the doors off experience is not that great in compare to the doors on ones. Also, barely much of the lava flowing is visible when you take the trip, thus making it just a regular helicopter ride.

Doors Off Hilo heli trip was amazing! Very good pics from this experience. Pilot York was great, he made some witty comments throughout the flight and was informative (we compared with the other half of our party who were in a different helicopter, and we had more factoids/tidbits to share, also we flew over Rainbow falls and they didn't though we had the same flight time...). Overall very neat. Super easy check-in and located conveniently near the airport parking.

Ecellent trip! We tried doors off, and it was the best way to "feel" the volcanoes experience. The pilot was excellent, even with strong winds, he rode the helicopter smoothly. He also explained every detail along the trip.

Great experience to fly with no doors on. Everyone at Paradise were welcoming and great customer service provided. The smaller helicopter is more manoeuvrable and seems to provide a faster ride. Our pilot, Colin was great and was always looking for something interesting for us to see and made sure everyone got a good view and ample time to take photos. Due to the unpredictability of The volcano you might not always see lava flow but the flight is worth it even if you don't. Dress warmly because it is cold up there without the doors on! A must do experience!

This was our first helicopter experience together and, prior to choosing Paradise, we extensively researched helicopter companies and found them to have terrific reviews. Also, there was plenty of other information on multiples sites to include: state of the art equipment (with the latest in safety measures), people having fun and, more importantly, an engaging staff.
We recommend using a go-pro, so you're not distracted with handheld cameras or cell phones so you can truly enjoy every moment of this mind-blowing sensory experience through one of the most beautiful places on earth.
We also recommend doing it with the doors OFF!! It was wonderful!!
We can't say enough good things about the staff. Throughout the whole experience, we always felt we could enjoy the soaring adventure because the staff made us feel they were in total control, highly professional and skilled, even when they were making us laugh (which was often!!) The team, led by Joyce (the pilot), was a big part of what made the experience so enjoyable.

Tom's had a bargain deal, and this was a must see for us on our trip, so we took advantage of it, and opted for the doors off extreme ride.
The pictures advertising this attraction show what SOME events (from years past) with lava flowing left me a little disappointed, as our trip wasn't nearly that spectacular, and the pilot spent less than two minutes over the main area of release, it left me hoping for less time viewing waterfalls near the town, and desiring more time at the volcano site. I can understand limiting the time near the main "crater", as our helicopter did encounter a brief but sudden heat burst, and on my side, I felt the instant warmth from the lava, which my wife could see from her seat. After viewing my videos, I could see tongues of flame appear in the vent holes, so that was pretty nifty. The pilot was very knowledgeable about the history of the area, so that was nice. We were able to see the flows as they entered the ocean, which is amazing.
The ride is noisy, and a jacket is definitely needed, or the ride will get chilly. Best seat is up front, just opposite the pilot, although the doors off is great viewing for all
We also had to get our flight rescheduled, the manager (Carlos?) did a phenomenal job tracking down a pilot and helicopter for us on short notice, as the cruise ship only allows for one day visits, and the original ride had a malfunction with the equipment.
Big Mahalos for Tom's, and the crew for scheduling this for us, Kai was especially helpful, and responses to our questions were met with thorough answers and suggestions.

Summary: The extreme volcano tour (doors off) is the way to go. It is VERY cold and windy, so bring REALLY warm clothes. You will have to have straps for anything that you bring with you (i.e. cameras, cell phones). You can by straps for your phone at the counter for $2. The pilots are excellent, and the ground crew are great. A very smooth and amazing ride. Views of the island and volcanoes are very cool. Lots of fun and worth the cost. About 45 minute flight.

Really enjoyed our helicopter ride Joyce, our pilot was very informative and gave us a smooth ride. Seeing the volcano with the lava from the air was a great experience. Loved seeing it flow into the ocean. Waterfall views were a little weak but all in all a great experience and would recommend it to anyone. One of the most expensive things we did but don't regret it one bit.

Two dads and two sons in our group went on this excursion. They all said it was amazing! They could feel the heat and smell the volcano. They were lucky to be able to see lava activity in the crater as well as a break-out flow. What is exceptionally amazing is that one of our sons wrote some notes on the comment card to the pilot saying he was interested in learning to fly helicopters and the pilot emailed us back offering to give advice and answer any questions. That was above and beyond anything that was expected!

Paradise Helicopters provided us a wonderful experience...and Kilauea Volcano more than met our expectations! Watching lava flow down the mountainside into the ocean followed by hovering over a crater of bubbling, red hot lava so close we could feel the heat, was magnificent. The pilot was very informative and ensured all had a great view of the volcano and some waterfalls on the return leg of our flight. The ground crew were professional and made us feel like family, not just clients. It was an exciting adventure...our best yet during multiple visits to the Hawaiian Islands. GO if you ever have the opportunity!
