This trip combines snorkeling at the largest coral reef on the Big Island and paddling along beautiful Hawaiian beaches. Our destination is the Captain Cook Monument in Kealakekua Bay. Enjoy great snorkeling with views of coral gardens, tropical fish and sea turtles. Spinner dolphins are regularly seen, as well as humpback whales during whale season. Getting to the snorkel site should be as much fun as snorkeling since you get to paddle to the area by sea kayak. This tour is very popular with newly weds, beginners, and more experienced paddlers who want more personal attention and a quieter atmosphere. These trips are tailored to the interests of our guests and their abilities, and is suitable for ages 5 - 75. Paddle approximately 1.5 miles, about 35 minutes. Meet 15 minutes before trip start time, sign liability waivers, fitting for PFD's and snorkel gear. Receive brief instructions on kayaking and launch kayaks. Paddle approximately 1.5 miles and/or 35 minutes to Kealakekua Bay State Park where we make a State permitted landing at Awili Cove near Captain Cook Monument to snorkel. Walk to Captain Cook Monument, receive snorkeling instructions and enter water for up to 1.5 hours (most guests snorkel from 30 - 60 minutes). Have drinks and snacks while listening to narration on marine life, Hawaiian culture and history of the area. Return to kayaks for return trip. WILDLIFE: Dolphins are see on about 70-80% of our trips. It is no better for dolphin viewing on either trip. Whales seen December to April. Manta and eagle rays seen infrequently. Over 10 kinds of tropical fish and 4 types of coral seen daily. Sharks are not common in this area. The first trip (7 am trip) arrives before the crowds. My wife and I couldn't have enjoyed our kayak tour more than we did. Except for maybe having a go-pro to capture the Dolphins that surrounded us. Our tour-guide, Natasha, was a wealth of knowledge and was extremely attentive. She supplied snacks and water to drink, as well as all of our snorkel gear. Please remember bring cash to tip your guide. Sunscreen is turning out to be very harmful to the reef. If you are sensitive to the sun, a big hat and something to cover your legs while you paddle is highly recommended. We were happy to forego the use of sunscreen to make sure we wouldn't harm the delicate Eco-system. Booking was easy and we actually booked all of our activities through Tom Barefoots while in Hawaii. We really can't recommend them highly enough.

Natalie, our guide, was great. So much local knowledge. We absolutely loved this trip. We were the only ones as a family of 5. We had a great time. The snorkelling was sensational - and fortunately most others had gone by the time we got to the bay. We would definitely do this trip again and highly recommend

It was a blast! Lots of fun, dolphins, and more!

Awesome tour. Excellent snorkeling spot. We ended up with 2 tour guides for the 10 of us, and they are both wonderful and knowledgable.

A great day. Patrick was terrific. Beautiful scenery and a great area to snorkel. The dolphins jumping around us was a highlight

Great early morning Kayak and Snorkel! Very well organized and we beat the crowds to the Captain Cook Monument. Patrick and Ben were great guides. The trip loads from a concrete dock. It was about 3 feet from the dock to the kayak when we loaded and maybe 4 feet when we returned. They helped us safely get in and out. I dont have good flexibility or upper body strength but the guys were strong and able to help me in and out. They were very informative about the bay and legends and shared information along the way. The snorkel was amazing and the water was clear and warm. Great trip and well worth getting up early and beating the crowds was a great option. We highly recommend it! We had 4 in our group ages 26-63. There was another family of only 10 overall!
