Not very friendly or talkative.  Didn’t catch or see anything. The other
guests in our group were more social than the captain and crew. Heard over the
radio of a few groups on different boats seeing and catching fish, yet we
didn’t venture that way to see anything.

I'm glad I waited to write this so that I had time to ruminate about the
experience. As a small business owner I am sensitive to the occasional hard to
please customer or the series of unfortunate events that can reflect poorly on a
business. First, I should have researched sport fishing in Hawaii in November.
Apparently it is the worst month for fishing. I understand the boats are just
trying to make money, but had I known the opportunities to catch fish were
minimal at this time I would have passed on the experience this trip. Secondly,
our boats' crew consisted of Chad, our captain and his father. . . . now I'm
forgetting his name, but he's the crusty old, wiry guy. Chad was good.
Competent. Professional. His father on the other hand is certainly experienced;
he knows his fishing. But, he's an idiot. I don't think he's trying to act like
an idiot; I think that's just him. He has a sarcastic answer for every question.
Now, sometimes that can be funny. But, sarcasm constantly makes for a tiresome
experience. My hunch is that he's overdue for retirement and he knows it and he
just wants to be done with whole teaching folks how to fish. So, my suggestion
is; do it. That all being said, I'd go again on another boat or on Chad's boat
if he had a different crew; during the peak fishing season.
