Oahu Hiking Tours

Enjoy your hike on an Oahu Rainforest Tour

Hiking on Oahu will take you to beautiful places and numerous hiking trails you would never know existed. Here are some of the physical characteristics that make guided Oahu hikes so worthwhile:

  • Rainforests and waterfalls are found throughout the island so take advantage of an Oahu rainforest tour.
  • The island of Oahu is the second oldest of the major Hawaiian Islands and therefore the volcanoes are extinct and have had time to allow nature to sculpt these areas into the most interesting hiking adventures.
  • The huge amount of rainfall in portions of Oahu gives the island many carved and chiseled features along with beautiful forests, valleys and gorgeous foliage. This provides the perfect environment for hiking trails, hike trips, nature hike tours,  hiking eco-tours of all varieties and types of hiking on Oahu.

The great thing about many of these Oahu hiking tours is that most of them only require a half day.

  • Oahu is small enough that you can get to these remote hiking areas in short order and begin enjoying your hiking adventure.
  • These tours are short enough that many people choose to take them on multiple mornings and can often receive a hiking tour discount when they book as many as three Oahu hikes with some companies.

Some of the most interesting hiking on Oahu will take you to see some of the rare and exotic birds in Oahu's forests.  Wildlife found in these regions are an added bonus as are exotic wild flowers, exotic plants, bamboo forests, overhead rainforests and waterfalls with refreshing freshwater pools.

This video segment is about hiking on the island of Oahu in the tours that we offer.

One of the big misnomers that people have about Oahu, a misunderstanding if you will, is that they equate Oahu with the fact that it is a huge city, Honolulu and outskirts- lots of people, lots of freeways, lots of homes and lots of civilized areas throughout the island that, that in essence is what this island's about. If you want to see beautiful countryside, or things that are out in nature and so on, you go to the other islands.

Well this couldn't be further from the truth. Actually the way it turns out, is that yes, there are big cities on Oahu. Yes there are lots of people. There are freeways. There's lots of cars. All that happens.

But, on this small island there are many, many areas that are really isolated and segregated away from these huge metropolitan areas and that are just really totally out there in nature and beautiful to visit.

Let me give you an example here really quickly. This is on Oahu. If you can see that well enough, there are no roads, no cities, no people I can see in there. It doesn't look like any sign of civilization. This could be a million miles away from civilization, but this is right in Oahu's back door.

Oahu has so many areas that you can go in and enjoy hiking. You've got these giant mountains, and ridges, and valley floors, and forests that happen, and streams, and waterfalls, incredible plants, and birds. They're all just so close for you to see.

That's the other advantage that you have with Oahu. Everything is really kind of right near you. You've got these ... If this was in a relief, you'd be able to see that this is a mountain range here. This is the Koolau, and the Waianae Range, right here. You've got these two ranges, a valley in the middle, and you've got the perimeter of the island is the coastal areas. That's where a lot of the people live, much more so down here than up here, to the point where we all actually call this country.

In the interior where you've got these giant Mountain ranges, you've got some real isolation. The fact is that these are so close to the metropolitan areas that one of the great things about Oahu is that you can get up into these areas, get away from everybody, be in, purely in nature. It just takes no time to get there. You get in a van or some kind of a vehicle that you're taking. You go up to a place where you start from the trailhead, then you go up into these areas and see some amazing, amazing things.

Consequently, a lot of the hikes that we have available, that you can take, are half days. You don't have to spend a full day driving to the another part of the island somewhere, then doing your hike and coming back. You can do a morning hike. Then you can come back down and have a cocktail at your hotel in Waikiki. You can do that a couple days in a row if you want, going to different areas of the island.

You just need to be aware of the fact that this is a place you can actually get out into nature, really enjoy yourself. Jump in the water and the streams and waterfalls and knock yourself out on a hike. Some of these hikes are ... You can expend a lot of energy, they are some distances, so that can happen. A lot of them are just really moderate hikes, don't take that long. It's just a matter of just getting out to these forested areas and just really breathing the air and appreciating nature for what it is.

We've got hikes that are really just up above Honolulu, and Manoa and in those areas. We've got hikes up on the other side of the island here in Waimea Valley and you've got the North Shore that's going on. There's many different areas that you can get into. I encourage you to look through and just get a sense of all your options. You might want to consider doing this on your stay here in Oahu. I think that you will find that it's a rewarding experience.
