Maui Sightseeing Tours

The single reason Maui Sightseeing Tours are so popular is because the 'Sights to See on Maui' are among the most breathtaking to be seen anywhere in the world. Tom Barefoot's Tours offers you many sightseeing options and many are at discounted prices.

For being an island just 48 miles from tip to tip it has a staggering number of micro climates varying from dense jungles, to tropical white sand beaches and include gorgeous ranch and pasture lands, windswept coastlines, dry lands covered with cactus, volcanic cinder cones found at high elevation, rich farmlands, swampy marshlands, and multiple forests including a redwood forest. All this of course is surrounded by ocean which can be seen from each vantage point. It is no wonder that Maui Sightseeing Tours are a 'must do' for most visitors to the island.

What are the most popular Maui Sightseeing destinations?

  • Number one on the list simply has to be the Road to Hana

. Because Hana is separated from the rest of the island by an extremely rugged coastline and dense, dense jungle forests it requires some effort to get there and is ideally suited for a full-day outing. Our many Hana tours will generally offer pick up at the major visitor hotels and condo units about 7am in the morning and after a day's touring will get you back perhaps at 6 pm depending upon the exact location of your accommodation. Your day will be full of adventure and sights that will last in your memory for a lifetime. The famous 'Road to Hana' is sculpted along the sides of jungle coastline cliffs with a seemingly endless series of turns and 'one-way' bridges taking you alternately between dramatic coastline views followed by interior valley views complete with a continuous supply of steams and spectacular waterfalls. Triple canopy rain forests, spectacular flower blossoms, abundant fruit falling bountifully from the trees, rainbows at every turn and the alluring scent and deep fragrances of the total mixture of all these elements will capture you in a mystical trance.
  • The Crater of Haleakala.

No visit to Maui would be complete without a visit to Maui's famous Crater of Haleakala. Located at the top of Maui's highest mountain at 10,000' the crater is an unforgettable reminder of the epic source that created all the Hawaiian Islands. The most popular time to take a tour to the Crater is for sunrise. The effort to get up early in the morning to meet your sightseeing van pickup (we advise doing this tour on your first day on Maui when you will automatically be getting up early due to your biological internal clock) will be rewarded as you arrive at the top of the mountain while it is still dark outside and seemingly every star in the universe will be on view in a light show that has no equal. As you walk to the rim of the crater you will begin to see the colors starting with the deep purples, violets and blues begin to emerge and shafts of light will illuminate the spectacle before you as if a curtain is opening on this enormous crater that is 3000' deep and 21 miles in circumference. This is a sight not to be missed and is something everyone visiting the island should witness at least one time.

Maui's bike tours can be sightseeing tours too?

If you are looking to mix a little adventure with your sightseeing on Maui you might enjoy one of our tours that take you to the top of the Haleakala Crater to enjoy the sunrise and then allow you to descend the mountain to the ocean below on a sturdy mountain bike (the bike portion of the tour starts from the edge of the Haleakala Park boundary at the 6,500' level). Allowing gravity to pull you all the way down the hill and never having to pedal is a great allure for many. You can view the bike options on our Maui Bike Tours page.

Pride of America Cruise Ship:

So, this video segment is going to be about sight seeing or land tours on the island of Maui.

Maui is so beautiful. For an island that's only 48 miles long, it has so much to see and so diversified, the things that you can see. We've got the beautiful Hana coastline with all the lush, dense, tropical rainforests, and pools, and streams, and waterfalls, and all the beautiful trees, and fruit that grows on the side of the road, and all of that.

We have the crater of Haleakal?, which rises 10,000 feet from the sea to a spectacular crater at 10,000 feet that goes down 3000 feet, and a crater that's 21 miles in circumference, and looks quite like the surface of the moon. Then we have the Iao Valley, which is carved right into the west Maui mountains, with the beautiful Iao Valley stream that runs through it, and what is referred to as the Iao Needle, which is a pinnacle that goes straight up that was worn away by erosion over the course of years to create this unusual structure. Of course, all the beaches, and areas in between are so beautiful to see.

Now you can see all these locations on your own and certainly you can get a Rent-A-Car, and you can enjoy driving to all these places, and we encourage you to do that. But, for some of you, it might be more advantageous to go with a tour. There's a lot of advantages to taking a tour. For one thing; you are with a guide who knows all the places to see, can make sure that you stop at all the right places, and then tell you about the history and the flora and the fauna, and geology, and all the things that come up. Plus you get a lot of the local understanding about someone who actually lives here and what it's like to be on the island, and things that you may be curious about. So, all that happens.

Also, the driving conditions for some people are not ideal. The trip to Hana is just a windy road. Let me actually show you where that is on this. So this is Maui, and the Hana coastline is here, and this is a coastline that has been carved by the Surf and the wind and the rain over the course of centuries to one of the most gorgeous, most beautiful, most picturesque coastlines anywhere on the planet. It is remarkable to see, everyone should go to Hana, to get the picture with it. But, the way you get there is along a roadway that is really carved out of these cliffs, and you've got hundreds of turns, switchbacks, back and forth. You have many dozens and dozens of one way bridges, so you're taking turns with oncoming traffic getting on the bridges and going through. The driver, in particular, on these trips to Hana, is spending a lot of time making sure that he's safely traversing the Hana highway, and consequently, he is missing a lot of the beautiful area that you're seeing on the way there.

Taking a tour is going to allow you to just sit back comfortably and watch, and really take it all in. There's so much to see, it is tremendous. So you'll get a little narrations as well, and there are plenty of places that they'll stop and you'll get out and walk around. Many times you'll have an opportunity to jump into the fresh water, cold water streams, pools that are there, depending upon the tour, and the company, and the specific situation that you've got going on, that happens. But, it makes it a little bit nicer for many people to just enjoy the trip without having to think about driving.

The same thing, to a degree, happens as you're going up to the crater of Haleakal?, because this is now 10,000 feet that comes up to the top and you're working your way up along a highway that has many curves and bends, and so on. So you can be alleviated of your driving to be able to have someone take you on a tour.

For these reasons it is really advantageous for many people to go ahead and just take a tour and we have many companies that we can arrange to do this with. We have some companies that take the big buses, we have the smaller vans, or vans, if you will, that maybe take 11 passengers, that sort of thing, the traditional vans. We have the vans that are the kind that you've probably seen that are high enough that you can stand up in, and those would have about the same number of people. They would also have lots of viewing windows, extended windows, specially designed so that you can really see out. These are sight seeing vans. Some of them are more comfortable than others, some have bench seating, some have, what they refer to as captain's chairs, which a little bit like, almost a bucket seat, but really a chair that you can kind of recline in, and really enjoy the sights in style.

You choose how comfortable you want to be and how many people you want to be with. Also, some differences in terms of lunches, and where they may stop. So, there's just so many different choices, but they're up to you and you can certainly read about them on our site. We have lots of different options. But, not only do we go to Hana and to the crater, to the Iao Valley, on these tours, but there's some other tours that we have that you might find interesting.

We have some food tours that go to local restaurants and primarily in Paia, or Makawao and get a little bit more of the culture in that way. We have farm tours that will take you to specific farm areas to learn about how things are produced, also we have lavender farms that you can get up to and see that. We have a winery that you can go through. So, a lot of agricultural areas that can be seen if you have an interest in those things. We have pineapple tours that will take you to the pineapple fields and show you how they're planted, how they're grown, how they're harvested, and then how they're packed, and all that. Those are very interesting tours that people find intriguing.

There are lots of different things that you can do, and I encourage you to look through our website to see all the different options that you have available to you. We even got a segway tour on the west side that will take you on those segways, those vehicles that have the two wheels like a little scooter that stands up, you can control. They don't fall over, and you can ride around through the Kaanapali and L?hain?. So many different types of sight seeing tours that are available to you on the island of Maui. So, if you have any questions about Tours or Activities in Hawaii, just give us a call, or check out TomBarefoot.com, we're here to help.
