So this next video segment is about hiking on the Island of Maui and in Maui County.

Now, keep in mind that there are tons and tons of hikes that you can take on your own; you can go to the Crater, you can go to Hana, you can go partial distance to Hana, you can go to the West Maui's, you can go to the beach areas that we have, you can go up to a red wood forest, there's lots of different places that you can hike on your own. In fact there's a great book called 'Hike Maui', Robert Smith, it's been out for quite a while, and it has a lot of the hikes that you can take, it's got the trail heads where you start from, what you can expect, that sort of thing.

So those are all available to you. In addition to that, of course, we do have hikes that will be guided hikes, so some of the obvious advantages that you're gonna have there is that you're gonna be going with somebody that knows what's going on, gonna know the terrain, gonna know a lot about the Island, about he flora and fauna, and will be able to assist you in many, many ways, and those are very, very fun trips, we have a number of those that happen throughout the course of the Island itself. We have trips that go to Hana, take you all the way over there and get you past Hana, actually, to the Seven Pools area called 'Ohe'o Gulch' nowadays, and then take you on a hike that goes up the hill through a huge bamboo forest, amazingly huge bamboo forest, up to a gigantic waterfall, and then back again.

So that's a hike, we have trips that'll take you half way to Hana, so you don't have to go all the way, but still you're gonna be in the Jungle and being able to be in waterfalls and pools and do some hiking and see a lot of the native plants, and these will all be explained to you along the way. We have yours that are available that take you into the West Maui's on shorter tours, maybe a 4 hour hike, something like that, these are not all full days.

We also have tours that'll take you all the way up to the Crater of Haleakala, so on these you're going up 10,000 feet to the top, and then you've got a Crater that descends about 3,000 feet and it's huge, 21 miles across ... Or in circumference, excuse me, and these tours don't take you all the way down to the bottom and around there's lots of things you can do, a couple day hikes in the Craters, lots of stuff that happens like that, but this is a 4 mile hike, so you're really gonna get a taste, actually you're gonna get a really good idea of what the Crater's all about when you hike down to that level.

So those are available to you as well. We have ... If you really want to get a little bit crazy and different, do something that most of you probably haven't done, we have rappelling tours, so you'll actually be able to rappel down a waterfall. These are in the jungle areas that are kind of on the way to Hana, and these are for people that really want to challenge themselves a little bit, you start off, assuming you have no clue about how to rappel, and you go off a 60 foot cliff to begin with, that's the practice, and then you go later on actually rappelling down a waterfall, so you'll be going on the rocks right with the waterfall itself and we've got, usually, a couple that would happen on the hike, maybe a 50 foot and a 30 foot would be happening, so those are really, really different for some people that really want to be a bit adventurous, and also for those that consider themselves to be good hikers, and adventurous at the same time.

We have places that take you up, actually, this is a shot of the Kalaupapa Peninsula over on Molokai, and so ... Actually, let me pull this up ... So, this is Maui County, here's Maui, Kaho'olawe, Lanai. This is Molokai, and the shot that we just saw there was of Kalaupapa Peninsula which is on the top, right in the middle here, and it's Father Damien's Leper Colony, and the reason it was placed here, or what the reason it was a leper colony in the 1800's is because it was so inaccessible because you had to either get into it by the sea, or down this huge cliff, about 2,000 feet of a cliff face that had switchbacks in it to get you down there. So that's what this tour is about.

You'll actually start on Maui, this is a full day trip, leaving from Lahaina on a ferry taking you over to Kaunakakai in Molokai, and there you'll be transported to the trail head which is just about where that photo was that we just saw a moment ago that looks down on Kalaupapa, you'll then go down all the switchbacks, all the way down to the Kalaupapa Peninsula. You'll do kind of a mini tour there, you're not there long enough to do a full tour, but you'll get an idea about what Father Damien's Leper Colony is all about.

You'll have a little lunch down there, and then you're gonna come back up, so you're coming up 2,000 feet so obviously this is for someone who is capable of hiking that kind of distances and also going that kind of elevation, so it's not something for everyone, but for those of you that are in good enough shape to do it, it is a wonderful hike. They get you up to the top, then you're transported back to Kaunakakai in time to catch the ferry which takes you then back to Lahaina. So you've got a full day going on, and that's one of the more spectacular hikes that I think that you could arrange.

We also have a number of hikes that mix categories if activities together, kind of combination type tours, so you can go Zip-Lining and hiking, some instances we have Kayaking and hiking and that sort of thing.

So there's a lot of adventures that we have, a lot of excitement that we've got with regards to hiking and it is really rewarding to get back out into the back Country of Maui County and really see the beauty that many people just never, ever get an opportunity to experience. Hiking. It's a good deal.
