60 and 45 Minute West Maui / Molokai Helicopter Flights

Mar 18, 2018 | Flight Information

This 60 minute West Maui/Molokai Flight can also be abbreviated into a 45-minute flight which obviously costs less but also cuts down on the viewing opportunities of some of the great areas to visit above the island of Molokai. Both tours will fly across the 8 mile channel between Maui and Molokai to Molokai’s famous North Shore. This is the home of the largest free-falling waterfalls from land directly into the ocean to be found anyplace on Earth. These 2000′ waterfalls highlight a rugged and extremely jungle laden coastline that rivals the beauty of any coastline in Hawaii. In the days of the Hawaiians they made good use of these valleys for the growing of taro and other plants and also made use of the wonderful fishing grounds just off the coast. The tremendous rainfall found here provided plenty of water to sustain growing populations and a vision in your mind of a ‘Garden of Eden’ might be a good analogy.

At the very end of this series of valleys and waterfalls will be found the Kalaupapa Peninsula which is the home of the famous Father Damien’s Leper Colony. Although federal airline regulations prohibit overflights of this historical monument you can see where it is from a distance without disturbing the silence and ambiance of this most peaceful place. Should you have an interest, we do have have special ‘airplane tours’ that do tour this coastline as well and then land at the Leper Colony for about a four hour stay.

Depending on if you choose the 45 of 60 minute helicopter flight you may have the option to fly back over the cliffs and over central Molokai where you will be able to view the beautiful southern coastline and in particular see the amazing fish ponds that were built by the Hawaiians hundreds of years ago and still stand today.

The return flight back will attempt to get into some of the remote valleys of the West Maui range if the weather is supportive. Also, if you are taking this tour in the winter months you will be having a rare opportunity to be able to spot pods of whales in the channel from the air.
