Oahu is the only island that has an extremely good transportation infrastructure and you can take a bus to many locations on the island. In Honolulu proper or Waikiki there are also many taxis and Uber. If you like the freedom of going where you like, when you like however, you should make arrangements for a rent-a-car on Oahu as well.

On the islands of Maui, Kauai and the Big Island you will be very glad you made arrangements for a car because the places you will want to go will in all likelihood be some distance from your hotel or condo. It will make your life so much easier.
