Interisland Airways, Big Island Candy Factory - Tom Barefoot
The Big Island is a land of great diversity and great novelty. This was evidenced on the tour of the volcano by Interisland Airways when they took us to visit the Chocolate Factory known as “Big Island Candy Company” on the way to visit the summit of Kilauea. The Big Island Chocolate Factory employs dozens of busy workers who can be seen through the large plate glass window walls that separate the shop from the actual kitchen facility where the chocolate is produced. The various concoctions of chocolate confectionary are seemingly endless and appeal to a wide variety of tastes as was apparent when I agreed to test the squid dipped in dark chocolate. A more divergent combination of tastes and textures could hardly be imagined however in the future I will be reaching for the chocolate covered almonds.
