Fishing With Aloha Blue Charters - Tom Barefoot's Tours |
Today we went out with Aloha Blue Charters for a bottom/sport fishing trip. We had out lines in the water for the whole way out to the bottom fishing zone that was off the coast of Makena. Captain Matty kept his eyes on the fish finder as he tried to park us right above all of the fish. Sure enough after about two passes the fish finder started blowing up and we were instructed to drop our lines. We were using Ika (squid) for bait. I wrapped the legs thoroughly around the hook to hide it from any hungry fish that might think of having a snack on it. Sure enough a couple minutes later I got my first bite and pulled it up to the top. It was only a small triggerfish but one of the crew members suggested that I use it as live bait. So baited the fish on the hook through the tail and sent it to the bottom then cranked it up a couple times. Sure enough I pulled up a small Yellow Spot Papio. My friend Greg that was visiting from Alaska used the same technique of tying the hook into the middle of the Ika then dropping it and pulled up a 12lb Yellow Spot Papio about two minutes after mine. Thanks Captain Matty for putting us in the spot, we had a wonderful dinner of Papio that night and a good story to tell the following week about out fishing success with Aloha Blue Charters! - Jake Barefoot
