Cruiser Phil's equipment is well suited for the ride down the mountain. His bikes are made specifically for him by the Workman's Cycle company on the east coast and are designed specifically for this ride. The seats are wide and comfortable allowing you to maintain a totally upright posture so you won't miss a moment of the adventure. There is only one gear and it is very low and may be only used perhaps just one of two times during the entire trip as you are almost exclusively going downhill. The brakes are disk brakes like you might find on a car so that you'll be able to minimize your speed when it is necessary. You actually have both front and back brakes for more efficient stopping and I found myself almost always using them both at the same time and that was very effective. Cruiser Phil also provides you with windbreaker pants and gloves primarily used in the initial early morning descent and their "bomber jackets" made us feel like we were a part of a B-29 crew on a mission during World War ll.
