Bob Twogood has been a pioneer in establishing the famous kayak tours from Kailua Bay to the Mokulua Islands. His background as a former national champion kayak racer provided a solid foundation around which to build his kayak company. Twogood Kayaks has been operational since 1982 and his trips out to the Mokulua Islands are his company’s specialty. These tours are spectacular and my last excursion with them was one of my best experiences ever on Oahu. The Mokulua’s are breathtaking on their own but coupled with the degree of professionalism that Bob brings to the table along with the best equipment and quality guides available makes this experience one of the very best on the island.

Twogood Kayaks Tours - In 1982 Bob Twogood started his kayak touring company with great fundamentals. Bob is a former National Champion kayak racer and kayak builder. In fact, Twogood Kayaks, in addition to kayaks also builds related water sports equipment and is famous for producing surf-skis which have won 14 World Championship races in 20 year - more than any other surf-ski builder in the world. Bob’s knowledge of kayaks and his knowledge of the ocean about and surrounding Kailua Bay on the East Oahu shoreline makes his company a natural to go with to get the full amount from your kayaking experience. Kailua Beach and the adjacent Lani Kai Beach are consistently voted two of the best beaches in the world. The sand is almost powder in consistency and very white in color. The same holds true for the sand on the nearby Mokulua Islands which will be the ultimate destination of your day’s kayak adventure. The Mokulua Islands (known by locals as the Mokes) sit prominently one mile from Oahu’s shore over a beautiful shallow coral-laden ocean which has a uniquely green emerald jewel-like quality. The paddle from the Kailua shoreline to the Mokes is leisurely and beautiful and once you paddle up onto the white sand of the Mokulua’s you will be impressed not only with their beauty but by their isolation. These islands are a seabird as well as a turtle sanctuary and your explorations along the shoreline will prove to be a highlight of your day. You’ll find a deep tide-pool known as the “Queen’s Bath” which is great for a lovely dip. On the far side you will see “Sharks Cove” which is a beautiful island inlet. Lunch is served on the beach and you can even try your hand at surfing with your kayak if the waves are right and you have the inspiration. The paddle back comes with the promise of a landing on nearby Lani Kai Beach and a snorkel off its coral reefs. This is a great day for experienced and beginner paddler alike and is sure to be one of the best days of your Hawaii vacation.
