MAKAI EXCURSIONS is a Hawaiian owned & operated eco-tour company
specializing in cultural & archeological field trips. Most sites
require short hikes or nature walks to reach. The full day excursions
involve visiting sites of legends and myths with an afternoon stop
at the beach to cool off. No host lunch stop on full day trips.

| EXCURSION
#1 LEGENDS & MYTHS OF KO'OLAU-POKO - Visit half a dozen sites
while trekking through varied terrain with beautiful views of the natural
environment and changing topography. Total walking is about 2.5 miles.
Average about 1/2 mile at each site. Most trails are nature walks however
some sites have a little incline so maybe easy level hikes. Lunch is
beach picnic style, guests are welcome to bring lunch, or lunch can
be purchased at a local drive inn. Guests can also go for a short swim,
body surf or beach-comb after lunch. SITES VISISTED: KAPENA FALLS, swimming hole, bathing pools, petroglyphs MAUNA ALA/Royal Mausoleum, sovereign land, sacred burial site. NU'UANU NUKU, mountain pass, Pali Lookout, vista view, battle site. NA POHAKU O HAUWAHINE, sacred offering stones of shape sifting water spirit. ULUPO HEIAU, ancient temple ruins, built by menehune (supernatural little people) KA'IWI COAST SEA CAVE with petroglyphs (rock carving) 7 tide pool exploration. Includes bottled water, insect repellant, walking sticks, extra backpacks and rain gear (if needed). Thursday and Friday - pick up time starts at 7:30am drop off about 4:30pm |

| EXCURSION
2 - SACRED SITES OF OAHU'S NORTH SHORE. Visit a birthing stone
in Wahaiwa, continue to Mokuleia and hike out to Kaena Point. After
a no-host lunch in Haleiwa, visit two ancient temples and a fishing
shrine near Waimea Bay. Enjoy a quick dip at Pupukea Beach, may see
some green sea turtles. 5 miles of hiking, and most of it is one trail. SITES INCLUDE: KUKANILOKO Royal Birthing Stone/Heiau) is perhaps one of the most sacred sites on Oahu. A chief or chiefess born here was assured high ranking status. There is intimate secrecy about this place that only a trained guide will know. LEINA KA UHANE (leaping of souls rock) Hawaiians believe in a life after death. But there are only a few entrances to Po O Kumuhonua (Hawaiians Heaven) and you have to be shown these places by your aumakua (anxwatreal deities) after death or you don't get in. This is about a four mile hike along a rugged windswept coastline, you can investigate tide pools along the way and do a little beachcombing. LUNCH is a no host stop in Haleiwa Town: ie, plate lunches, picnic style at one of the mahy beach parks. PUU O MAHUKA HEIAU the largest ancient temple site on Oahu. Last dedicated as a war temple with human sacrifices. KANEAUKAI KOA a fishing shrine dedicated to one of the forms of the god Kane. it sits on the west bluff of Waimea Bay. Includes bottled water, insect repellant, walking sticks, extra backpacks and rain gear (if needed). Saturday Only - pick up time starts at 7:30am and drop off about 4:30pm |
