Oahu Horseback Riding - Horseback Stable Rides - Horse Riding Trails
Oahu horseback riding tours may not be the first activity you think about on Oahu, but maybe it should be.
You will have to drive to the more remote areas of Oahu, far from the streets of Honolulu and Waikiki, in order to search out your horseback riding adventure but when you arrive at your horseback riding stable you'll be able to enjoy a more "laid back" Oahu experience.

Some horseback riding stables will even include Waikiki or Honolulu pick-up at your hotel. First- time and experienced riders alike are matched with a horse equal to their experience level and many of the horseback riding locations feature beautiful views of lush mountain valleys, luscious jungle or spectacular coastlines.
You're horseback riding tour choices are varied on Oahu. You can visit a 350 acre ranch overlooking the beautiful Waimea Valley, take a personalized "sweetheart horseback ride" for just the two of you on Oahu's North Shore, horseback ride on the trails of the famous movie sets of the Kualoa Ranch and even ride horses oceanfront with the Hawaii Polo Club.

You should wear closed toed shoes and long pants on your horseback ride, (but you can leave your chaps and spurs at home).

On some horseback rides there is a weight limit of 250 lbs or so for adults.
Gunstock Ranch is a 400 acre working cattle ranch on the North Shore of Oahu. They offer horse training and boarding, livestock sales and a variety of guided horseback trail rides. Designed for all skill levels, these rides take you through lush trails of the Northern Koolau Mountains. A variety of rides are available including Oahu's only moonlight ride, offered twice a month during the full moon and a delightful "Sweetheart Ride" that will take out just the two of you. Come, spend an hour or more and witness breathtaking views while riding well-trained horses. The location of Gunstock Ranch is up on Oahu's north shore in the district of Laie very close to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Since most visitors to Oahu find themselves traveling up to the Polynesian Cultural Center at some point during their Oahu visit you might want to consider taking one of Gunstock Ranch's morning offering and going over to the Polynesian Cultural Center when it opens in the afternoon as you knock of "two birds with one stone". Unlike many of the horseback rides on the island Gunstock Ranch offers you a wide selection of rides to participate in. They offer rides designed for "keiki", in this case children ranging in age from two to seven years old. They also offer rides in the morning the afternoons and also moonlight rides once a month. Their advanced rides allow for the experienced riders to trot and canter as well as walk and they also occasionally offer a sunset BBQ ride for your to enjoy. One of their most favored rides however is their "Sweetheart Ride" in which you and your "loving other" are escorted with a wrangler on a private ride to a beautiful scenic point where you are left alone for a half-hour or so to enjoy the beauty of the moment together. This, over the years, has also become a favorite spot for many a young man to ask for his lady's hand in marriage. I personally arranged for a young gentleman to do exactly this on a visit to Gunstock Ranch with his loved one.

Horseback riding is of course a favorite activity of many visitors to Oahu and Hawaii and the beautiful expanse of valley known as Kualoa, on Oahu's eastern coastline, has long been a place where horseback rides have been offered. This valley is truly one of the most dramatic and beautiful in the state. It is so beautiful in fact that it has been the scene and backdrop of many of Hollywood's famous blockbuster movies like: Jurassic Park, Godzilla, Along Came Poly, Pearl Harbor, Fantasy Island, Mighty Joe Young, Magnum P.I. and Windtalkers. Rarely will you find a spot of such beauty and isolation that is so near a population center such as Honolulu but it is only a forty-five minute drive and the folks at Kualoa Ranch can arrange to pick you up at your Waikiki hotel if you would like them to. The horse ride itself takes you from the front gates of the ranch into the valley itself and far enough in to be able to absorb the tremendous beauty and solitude that lies within. These horseback rides can either be one-hour or two hours in length and are generally offered in the afternoon.

Horseback Riding in Oahu - On Oahu you've got "city" and then you have "country". Many people think that Oahu has just "city" alone. Not so. There's plenty of "country" on the island as well. Obviously Horseback riding and "country" go together, so you can expect to take a trip out of the "city" to enjoy a ride. This could mean a car trip of about an hour to an hour and a half from your hotel in Waikiki, but it is well worth it. The horseback riding on Oahu is found on large ranches that are primarily located on the North Shore. There's lots of interest in all things "equestrian" on Oahu and many folks have their own horses boarded on these ranches. There are also lots of local events that involve the general community in the "paniolo" lifestyle of the islands.
