Oahu Fishing Charters, Sport Fishing, Bottom Fishing and Deep Sea Fishing
Oahu sport fishing charters know just where to go to bring in the big fish.
Most of the sport fishing found on Oahu will be on the leeward coastlines usually departing from Kewalo Basin in Honolulu. The fisherman here know these waters well and often will take advantage of the sharp drop-off not far off the coast of Waikiki and head north toward the north-west corner of the island at Kaena Point. Because of the speed of these vessels a tremendous amount of territory can be covered in a single day, often as much as 60 miles. Following this area of great drop-off is a tactic designed to catch the big fish as they swim up from the deep waters of the channel between Kauai and Oahu. Another tact used by experienced fisherman is to reverse course and head to the shallow fishing grounds to the south of Waikiki called Pinnacles and another area called Penguin Banks. These strategies will be determined based upon the catch of the previous days, reports from other boats and the likelihood of changing ocean conditions that may alter the location of fish.

Tom's Tips - Oahu Sport Fishing Charters
Your best chances for catching fish are on the full day charters when your able to get out to the best fishing grounds and stay there a while.
Crew members are great fishermen, but you'll be pleased to know they won't be making your lunch. Bring your own food and drink.
Share-boat charters can be hard to arrange at times. We usually need a minimum of four passengers to confirm one so the best idea is to have as wide a selection of days and times available as possible.
Aikane Sportfishing Aikane Sportfishing is a little different. With these guys you won't only get to go out on a luxuriously equipped forty-one foot Bertram Sportfisher that has a large air-conditioned cabin, a fly bridge, full bathroom and two staterooms. You will get to keep your fish as well. Choose to go for a full day and have the greatest likelihood of catching the big fish. Or, if time is an issue then try a half day trip to try and reel a few in before lunch. The crew is very experienced, accommodating, professional and they have a reputation for aggressive fishing techniques. Choose from the bottom fishing trip where you could pull up some Opakapaka (Hawaiian Pink Snapper), Onaga (Longtail Snapper), Uku (Grey Snapper), or maybe even an Ulua (Giant Trevally). Or, if you want to try some deep-sea fishing you can try that option. On the deep sea trip an entirely different group of fish is targeted. You will generally be catching Ahi (Yellow-Fin Tuna), Aku (Skipjack Tuna), Mahi-Mahi (Dorado), Ono (Wahoo) or even a Marlin.

Fishing in Oahu - Oahu is a great place for fishing particularly off the western facing shores and the waters directly out to sea from Waikiki. Most of our charter boats will depart from Kewalo Basin. The water gets very deep very fast off this coastline so it's a good place to find the big fish. One of the most often used fishing strategies is to follow the coastline north at about the 1000 fathom depth line in route toward Kaena Point. This is the "fishing zone" for the big fish coming from great depths. A fishing boat can easily travel about 30 miles up the coastline before reaching the half-way point on a full day charter an so a lot of ocean can be covered. Another tack is to head out to the relatively shallow fishing grounds called the Pinnacles or another called Penguin Banks which lie south of Oahu. Each day requires a different call by your captain and much of the choice for the days best catch is likely to be based upon the previous days conditions and success rate.
