There are departures available from both the Kahului and Kapalua airports offering direct roundtrip service over the volcano and then back to Maui. The low stall speed of this aircraft allows them to travel very slowly over the volcano and do figure eights so people sitting on both sides of the cabin get a view. Big Island Volcano Tour from Maui - Volcano Air Tours Vendor: Volcano Air Tours Product: Big Island Volcano Tour from Maui Description: The flight will follow the north shore of Maui to Hana, (or weather permitting, over Haleakala!) and then across the Alenuihaha Channel to the north shore of The Big Island. The tour features spectacular cliffs, valleys, and waterfalls on the way down the Hamakua Coast to the Hilo area. Then the tour continues on to the Pu'u O'o Vent, viewing inaccessible regions of the volcano area and all active flows. The tour then proceeds back toward Maui, either through the saddle between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, or North of Mauna Kea over the Parker Ranch. After crossing the channel again, you follow the South Shore of Maui back to the point of origin.
