A surfing company may boast that anyone can be riding the surf in just one lesson and that, indeed, was the case when my son Jake tried it the first time. This, however, was not my experience. I had a great time, but I was still "surf-wave illiterate" after my first attempt.

Surfing is definitely the sport of Hawaii. Almost everyone that has grown up here has tried it at one time or another and most people that have learned to do it well have found that it is a sport they can do well into middle and even old age. It is a bit addictive I’m told, though I’ve never really been good at it. Many of my friends have been surfing for years and I think it keeps them young in spirit and body. If you’re bringing kids with you, you might want to give them a shot. We have great instructors and very consistent surf to learn on.
