South Pacific Kayaks is a company that likes to paddle in many different places around the island. They offer kayaking trips on both the south and western sides of the island. South Pacific Kayaks has a variety of trips that are suitable for both beginner as well as advanced kayakers. Perhaps one of the most extreme ways to go to Molokini is to paddle there with a kayak. Their kayaks are equipped with rudders that are operated by foot pedals so during a long voyage such as the seven and a half mile roundtrip paddle to Molokini there is no wasted effort from not being able to keep the kayak on course because of steering issues. South Pacific Kayaks does not limit themselves to just doing kayak trips, they also offer surf lessons and kayak surf combinations. During whale season the waters of Maui become very active with humpback whale activity. These species were once near the top of the endangered species list. In recent years because of global awareness and support the populations have increased substantially. A large portion of the North Pacific Herd come to the island of Maui to give birth and breed in the warm shallow waters that are found in the channels between Maui, Lanai, Kahoolawe and Molokai. South Pacific Kayaks offers whale watching tours during the winter whale season. Seeing the enormous humpback whales from the perspective of a kayak is awing. The Kayaks are just over ten feet long and the whales can reach well over fifty feet long.
