Sightseeing tours on Maui are very popular. Driving the road to Hana or winding your way up to the heights of Haleakala Crater will prove to be some of your most worthwhile days spent on Maui.
When I first visited Maui in the 1970's, I was told that I "might enjoy a Maui sightseeing tour to the area known as Hana. “There are waterfalls” they said, “it's very pretty..."
What an unbelievable understatement that turned out to be!
Sightseeing Tours to Hana
In all my travels I have yet to take a sightseeing tour to a spot that rivals Maui’s Hana coastline in sheer beauty and power of nature. Each bend of the narrow, winding road carved along the Hana coastline curves into a valley of waterfalls and fresh water pools. Dense jungle and rainforest are so thick in places you wonder how anyone could have made the trek before the Hana Highway.
The forest appears in layer upon layer of higher and higher canopies of overgrowth and spreading trees. The African Tulip tree stands out against the emerald green as beautiful plumes of brilliant orange high above the forest dome. The pale green of Kukui trees, which produce the Kukui nut used in ancient Hawaii as a source of oil for night lanterns, softens the dark forests of Koa and hard woods. The air is fragrant with the sweet aroma of ginger blossoms and everywhere you look are tropical flowers of all colors and shapes. Tropical fruit trees line the road - and sometimes cover the road - with mango, papaya, guava, passion fruit, mountain apple, breadfruit and wild berries. Hana is heaven on Earth and you should consider taking one of our fabulous sightseeing tours there to see it.
Sightseeing Tours to the Crater of Haleakala
Simply put.....Haleakala Crater is spectacular! Rising 10,000 feet out of the sea, the road from the ocean to the top rises the fastest of any other roadway in the country. From sea level in Kahului, your journey will take about an hour and a half or so (longer when leaving from other parts of the island) and your rise will take you through the famous Maui "upcountry" farmlands as you ascend. On many days you will even ascend through the clouds on the way up and hopefully break through to a beautiful sun-filled day on top.
Once arriving at the summit you will find an enormous crater 21 miles in circumference and 3000' deep that will take your breath away. Though visiting this natural spectacle at any time is amazing, sunrise is probably the most amazing time of all as all the colors of the rainbow fill in the crater bowl with an artist's flourish unrivaled by any human hand. As cold as it may be at that time of the morning and at that height (30's, 40's and 50's) it is worth braving the chill to see such an awesome sight.
Tom's Tips - Maui Sightseeing Tours
Take a mini-van Maui sightseeing tour. That way, you won't miss a single view or wonder what the name of that huge tree is. You'll learn all about the place names, the plants, flowers, and the Hawaiian stories and legends of the area.
Drive yourself in a rental car if you choose, but pay close attention to the road and the traffic. Hundreds of curves, narrow bridges and very wet areas will keep you within the speed limit. You'll want to stop at lots of the turnouts to let traffic pass and to get good photos of waterfalls and valleys, old bridges and tiny villages.
The trip to Hana is a full day. Don't make the mistake of planning something else for later.
Take along a bathing suit even if you are going with one of our sightseeing tours. You'll find lots of refreshing pools and streams that will entice you to take a dip but be careful of the slippery rocks and only go in where it is safe (flash floods are known to happen quickly from rain in the mountains above). If you are taking a sightseeing tour your tour guide will know when it is safe.

Maui Pineapple Tours Go for a different type of sightseeing tour and with Maui Pineapple Tours. Spend a few hours with long-time pineapple workers for a once in a lifetime authentic experience on a Maui Pineapple Tour. Learn first-hand about the unique growing and harvesting cycle of the "King of Fruits". You'll even be able to pick your own pineapple to take home and experience the taste of the tropics. At one point in time the pineapple growing industry was one of the biggest industries in the islands. Since it's heyday the industry has almost completely disappeared. The pineapple as well as the sugar cane industry in Hawaii has been greatly impacted by the cheap labor that is available overseas. The Maui Pineapple Tour is one of the few things left of this once mighty Hawaiian industry. The guides of the Maui Pineapple Tour were brought up in the Hawaiian pineapple industry and the kind of knowledge and stories they will share with you take on a whole new level of meaning and significance when heard from them first hand.

Polynesian Adventures Polynesian Adventure Tours has been a staple in the land tour industry of the Hawaiian Islands for years. They have operations on all major Hawaiian islands and even offer packages that include airfare as well as a guided tour once you arrive. On the island of Maui there are so many sights to see. The whole Hana side of the island is a lush triple canopy rainforest that averages over one hundred inches of rain annually. This side of the island was once isolated from the main port of Kahului because of the series of steep valleys and gulches that made it impossible to travel by wagon. In 1926 the construction of the Hana Highway was completed and it was possible to travel from the main port of Kahului to Hana side of the island. This highway is an engineering marvel. The road is cut through some of the most rugged, beautiful terrain you will find anywhere on the planet. Seeing this side of the island is something that should be on the agenda of every Maui visitor. Polynesian Adventure Tours also offers tours to the summit of the Haleakala Volcano. Haleakala is 10,023 feet tall and from the summit it is possible to see the Big Island and on a very clear day Oahu is even visible. Haleakala is not like most mountains, on its peak sits one of the largest craters in existence with a length of over ten miles and a depth of over one thousand feet. Smaller cinder cones litter the floor of the crater and the iron oxide in the dirt makes the entire landscape a deep rust color. From the base of the mountain Haleakala hides its crater well and it is not visible until you get all the way to the top and literally peer over the rim to see what lies below. If you have the time to go experience this sight first hand Polynesian Adventure Tours has packages available that pick up from your hotel.

Temptation Tours Temptation Tours is one of the most established of the Maui sightseeing tour companies. They have always remained focused on their mission, which is to offer the visitors of Maui a high-end luxury sightseeing tour. The prices with Temptation Tours are a bit higher then you will find on most of the other sightseeing tours but the group sizes will be smaller and you will travel in one of the Temptation Tours limo-vans. The most popular of the tours offered by Temptation Tours are the Hana and Haleakala Tours. The Hana Tour will take guests out to the East side of the island where tradewinds have created a tropical rainforest that receives about one hundred inches of rain a year. You will pass by Bamboo forests, Banyon Trees, flower farms, fruit stands, black sand beaches, jungle waterfalls, taroe patches, and much more. Hana is the countryside of Maui. Once you get to Hana town do not be disappointed at their lack of stoplights, movie theaters and big name stores. You will find not much more in Hana then one small resort, two small grocery stores, a gas station, and the baseball field. The other trip that Temptation Tours is well known for is the Haleakala and upcountry tours. The Haleakala Crater is over one thousand feet deep and more then ten miles across. The bottom is littered with cinder cones and colored a deep red. Unfortunately the crater is not visible until you actually get up to the craters rim peer over the edge, if this is something you would like to see it is required that you travel to the top of the mountain to do so. The luxury limo vans of Temptation Tours make for an ideal way to relax and take in the beautiful scenery of Maui.

Sightseeing Tours and Land Tour in Maui - Maui can be very deceptive at times. I’ve known many people who have come here and who have been hypnotized by its beautiful white sand beaches off Kaanapali and Napili on the West and off Wailea and Kihei on the South side. Sometimes I guess that’s what a vacation is all about, just doing as little as possible and re-charging your batteries. But I’m going to try to persuade you, if you possibly can, to break away from the sirens call of the magical Maui beaches and at least once during your vacation visit the other side of the island, which is every bit as magical but in very many different ways. Did you realize that there are as many as eight separate climatic zones on this small 48 mile long island. Aside from the white sand beaches we have jungle coastlines, deserts, redwood forests, upcountry agricultural areas. Haleakala gets so cold at times that it snows up there. We have certain areas, lands and regions that are so specific in climatic conditions that certain forms of flora and fauna live only there and no other place on the planet. Maui has so much in so little space. You owe it to yourself to go out and see it, if only for one day.
