Opelu Surf School
Opelu Keahi has been teaching surfing to family, friends and visitors on Maui since the 1950's. He keeps his lessons personal, friendly and Hawaiian. Opelu is a living legend and he has grown up and surfed with other legends such as Rabbit Kekai and Clyde Aikau. Opelu has taken great care in selecting and training his instructors resulting in a staff of some of the finest instructors available. All have knowledge of First Aid and are CPR certified. Each instructor is required to have over ten years of ocean and surfing experience. While safety is emphasized throughout the instructors will do all they can to ensure that everyone’s main goal of learning to surf is met. Opelu Surf School offers a variety of different lessons ranging from group lessons to private, semi-private and family lessons. Opelu has different surfboards for the different skill levels of his students. Most of the first time and beginner lessons are taught on the larger soft top long boards. For the more advanced riders there are more sleek looking fiberglass boards that can be used for those that are already skilled in standing up and trimming down the line and are looking to learn how to sink the rail and make some turns. …
