The well known Mendes family runs an active cattle ranch on Maui's Kahakuloa coast. In recent years they have operated a horseback ride on their ranch that has brought the local color of their "paniolo" roots to Maui's visitors. The Mendes Ranch is one of the few horseback rides that actually allow experienced riders to do a bit of running and they are also very good at providing a riding experience for those who are novice as well. If you'd like the "real Hawaiian deal" you'll appreciate the cowboys, horses and gorgeous ocean views of the Mendes Ranch.

Morning Ride - Mendes Ranch and Trail Rides

Description: Mount up and ride through verdant mountainsides
to view the Waterfalls of Waihee Valley. Your equestrian adventure
continues across cattle fields to the lower half of the Mendes Ranch
where you will descend upon Maui's spectacular north shore. Ride along
the shoreline with crashing waves. Two hours of riding and a hot BBQ
lunch served at 11:30am is available for $10.00.*
Operates: Monday-Saturday 8:30am
Departure Point: Ranch is located on Hwy 340 just past Mile Marker 7.
Duration: 3 hours 2 hours riding
Equipment: Well trained and groomed horses
Capacity: 24 riders. Broken down into small groups by skill level.

Description: Paniolo Horseback Helicopter Combo: Tour begins at the Sunshine Helicopters hanger at the Kahului Heliport where clients are picked up by a Mendes Ranch van at approximately 7:45am and are transported to the Ranch. Clients are treated to an unforgettable 2-hour horseback ride, which begins at the base of the lovely Waihee Valley. At the conclusion of your ride enjoy a Paniolo BBQ lunch of Mendes Ranch Ribs, BBQ Chicken, Country-style Baked Beans, Salad, Dinner Rolls and refreshments. Afterwards you are picked up at the ranch via helicopter at about 12:30pm and are given a 30-minute flight taking in the aerial beauty of West Maui. Return to the heliport between 1:00pm to 1:30pm.*

*Restrictions: Helicopter flight patterns and specific sights are subject to weather. You will be weighed at check in (if given weight is substantially lower than your actual weight, you may get bumped from the flight and you still have to pay for the seat)
Helicopters: A-Star - passengers over 240 lbs or with a combined weight for 2 passengers over 420 lbs may require the purchase of a comfort seat.
Horseback: Weight limit is 250 lbs and minimum age is 7 years old. No bad backs, neck injuries or pregnant riders.
