Maui Downhill
Maui Downhill is the oldest and certainly one of the most respected bicycle downhill companies to operate down bicycle trips down Haleakala. The predecessor of Maui Downhill, Cruiser Bob’s (which is no longer in operation), was the very first company to operate on the mountain. Rich Goodenough and "Cruiser" Bob Kiger were the original owners of this company and founders of the industry in general. Rich eventually created Maui Downhill and continued the legacy that began with his and Bob's original idea. Today his company is the largest on the island and he has established many of the industry standards that have become a hallmark of the downhill community over the years. Since the beginning the mission has always been the same. To get people out of the resort areas to see some of the other things Maui has to offer. Most of the resort communities on Maui are scattered across the Western and Southern shores of the island and it is not uncommon for visitors to stay within the boundaries of these plush resorts without ever leaving to explore. These bicycle trips offer not only an exciting way to spend the morning or afternoon but also a great way to do some sightseeing and see the other sides of Maui. The top of Halea kala is over ten thousand feet tall and at its’ summit sits a crater so large that Manhattan Island could sit comfortably inside of it. Between the cold, windswept, cinder covered environment of the summit and the warm, tropical beaches along the coastline sits almost every type of climate zone on earth. | Description: You will view the First Light of a new day as you journey across Maui's Central Valley and ascend Haleakala. As the sun rises you enter Haleakala National Park and proceed to the summit. Here you will view the spectacular 3000 foot deep crater floor with cinder cones, volcanic features and tour the House of the Sun Visitor Center. Learn about the history of the volcano and your National Park, visit the Silversword plants, native endangered species and birds that have made Haleakala their permanent home. After touring the Park your bicycle tour begins at the 6500 foot elevation outside the park. Your guides will go over a comprehensive safety briefing including bicycle safety regulations and tour guidelines. As the bicycle safari begins you will gently descend the 21 switchbacks on the western slopes of the world's largest resting volcano. There will be photo stops along your journey. Relax at a no-host meal and rest stop at the Sunrise Market and Proeta Flower Farm where you can visit and purchase souvernirs to take home. Bike thru a eucalyptus forests and the upcountry community of Kula with beautiful Jacaranda tree lined roadways that offers bi-coastal views bringing you to the end of the bicycle portion of your tour near Pukalani. Enjoy a van tour from Pukalani to the sea with information and history of Maui's Sugar Cane and Pineapple Plantation Days.

Downhill bike safari gently descends the western slopes of Haleakala volcano with two safety stops in the switchbacks for rider evaluation, rest and photo opportunities.
Enjoy spectacular views while coasting down the newly paved state highway. This roadway has wide paved "pull out" areas for photo stops and/or traffic passes. Two experienced tour guides will be with you to answer any questions. Enjoy the comfort of our custom made bicycle while coasting through the green switchbacks of the western slopes filled with bi-coastal views of the Central Valley. Eucalyptus forests and the upcountry community of Kula with its beautiful lavender farms and Jacaranda tree lined roadways will complete the bicycle portion of your safari. Safari van tour continues from above Pukalani and travels to Ulupalakua with photo stop along the way. Enjoy a no host picnic lunch at Ulupalakua ranch. Walk the grounds of Maui's only winery and enjoy free tasting of local wines.
