| Maui Hiking Tours and Maui Hiking Trails | |||||||||
Maui has more hiking trails per square mile than most national parks. Some of Maui hiking trails are easy to find (and there is a book of maps titled "Hiking Maui" that maps out dozens of them) and some are hidden. We recommend a guided hike of Maui with a professional tour guide. Maui hiking guides are naturalists, historians, botanists, and storytellers all wrapped up in one person. Surprisingly, hiking in Maui is one of the least requested activities we offer, yet one of the most interesting. Here are the various Maui hiking companies that offer hiking tours of the island: Hawaiian Hiking Company - enjoy half and full day hiking excursions through the rainforest and waterfalls of the Windward and Leeward sides of Maui. A knowledgeable guide shares information about the Hawaiian flora and legends. All hikes include deli sandwiches (Turkey, Ham, or Veggie), Chips, Snickers and organically grown fruits and bottled water. EQUIPMENT: Passenger Vans, Backpacks, Bottled Water, Bamboo Walking Stick, Insect Repellent and First Aide equipment all provided. Hawaiian Hiking Company also has special footwear for the waterfall hikes. Tabis, a fiber sole shoe that makes the stream crossing a breeze! 10 hikers per guide ( Minimum of four hikers to confirm all hikes) Hikers should bring a camera, wear shorts and a short-sleeved shirt and bring a swimsuit and towel for the waterfall hikes. Hawaiian Ultimate Adventures - feeling adventurous? Learn to surf - go for a Kayak & Snorkel Advenure or do a Waterfall & Rainforest Hike. Professional guides and instructors will make certain you remember these activities as one of the highlights of your Maui Experience. Hike Maui - offers full and half day hikes all over the island of Maui. See waterfalls, rainforest, mountain ridges or Haleakala Crater. Also available are kayak, snorkel and hike combo packages. EQUIPMENT: Packs, ponchos, First Aid Gear, lunch, fruit, water bottles, & mosquito repellant. Days and times vary. Maximum group of 8 hikers All Hikes meet at the Commuter Parking Lot corner of Puunene & Dairy Road Hike and Kayak Meet on West side. Maui Eco Adventures - offers custom hiking tours in Ford air conditioned vans. Includes hip packs, towels, rain ponchos, snacks and water on all trips. Continental breakfast and full lunch included on 6 hour trips. Full service guided company with knowledgeable guides of natural and cultural history. Pick up at most West Side locations. 15 passenger Ford Vans, Northface, Patagonia and Lowe Alpine gear. 4 Guests Minimum. Maui is unquestionably a Hikers wonderland. There are hikes for virtually everyone. If you just want to get out in nature, perhaps walk a half a mile or so, enjoy the beautiful scenery and breath some fresh air. Maui has hikes for you! If you’re an experienced hiker and want to put your body to the test no problem. Maui will kick your butt. There are hikes you can do on your own, using a guide book like “Hiking Maui” which can be found in most bookstores, or you can take a guided hike where experienced and professional guides can take you to some of the most exciting locations on Maui. The choice is yours but you should probably consider doing some form of hiking when on island because many of Maui’s most beautiful spots are located off the beaten path. Some of the spots you should consider hiking to, through or in are the Crater of Haleakala on its Switchbacks or Sliding Sands trails which lead to the crater floor. You can also hike the trail leading from the Crater floor all the way to sea level down the Kaupo Gap. Hosmers Grove is also an hour long hike which is located within the Haleakala Park boundaries. One of my favorite hikes is a hike through the redwood forest of Polipoli with three different options of trail lengths. Hana has some great hiking with some of the most popular trails being in the Oheo Gulch up to the bamboo forest. Iao Valley is also a great choice. |
