One theory on whale watching is to go on a really fast boat. Although all boats are required to cut power at a safe distance from the whales there is a method to the fast boat theory. By observing the whales from a distance and seeing where the whales are going and then positioning yourself to be more in front of them then cutting the motors it increases the likelihood of having the whales approach the boat.
