Maui X-Treme Tours and Activities
Interest in extreme tours and activities on Maui is growing rapidly.
Enjoy paragliding school and a zipline adventure on Haleakala.
Here are the best extreme tours and extreme activities available on Maui:
Action Sports Maui - Offers the most complete range of lessons in Surfing, Windsurfing and Kitesurfing. The instructors are well trained professionals that are dedicated to their sport, including some of the most highly trained instructors and instructor trainers anywhere. Three individual schools running simultaneously are able to respond to all your demands. ASM caters to the extreme athlete as well as the novice, bringing these watersports within the reach of the average visitor to the island.
Kapalua Adventures - High above Kapalua Resort on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains lies the "Mountain Outpost", the center of activity for the zipline tours and other exciting challenges offered by Kapalua Adventures. The Mountain Outpost features the longest zipline course in Hawaii with nearly two miles of parallel zipping action! The Mountain Outpost also features other state-of-the-art high-flying adventures including a 6-element high ropes course, the leap of faith, a climbing wall, and a giant two-person swing. The Mountain Outpost also features a 360' suspension bridge, the longest and highest in Hawaii.
Piiholo Ranch Zipline - The Piiholo Ranch Zip-line is the newest of Maui's great zip-line adventures. A good case could be made that this zip-line may also be the most exhilarating. With spans crisscrossing Maui's famous Maliko Gulch the zip-rides are long and breathtaking but none as amazing as the final zip-line of the adventure which spans almost 3000' and is the longest zip-line in Hawaii (it is also the third longest zip-line in the world). This line is so long that it actually takes about a full minute to complete at speeds of about 50 mph. The Piiholo Zip-line is actually located on the Piiholo Ranch which is a working cattle ranch that was once part of Maui's Haleakala Ranch. Horseback rides are given on the ranch as well. Both these adventures are run and operated by Maui's Baldwin family which dates back seven generations here to the 1820's when the Reverend Dwight Baldwin was Lahaina Maui's first missionary. The views from the upcountry Olinda region of Maui are among the most beautiful to be found on Maui and the charm and ambiance of the Piiholo Ranch only serve to enhance both the zip-line and the horseback adventures.
Proflyght Hawaii - Hawaii Paragliding's Tandem instructors offer you the experience of soaring over the slopes of Haleakala. No prior experience is necessary! After a brief course on the basics, you will gear up and then take a few strides and fly away with your instructor. When you are ready you can take the controls and learn to maneuver about the sky. Paragliders are the slowest flying aircraft in the world, allowing easy lift off grassy, shallow slopes with ease.
Skyline Eco-Adventures - Now the fun really begins. Skyline Eco Adventures offers the only zip-line adventures on Maui. Located on the slopes of Haleakala at about the 3500’ level, Skyline offers a series of four (perhaps more soon) zip-line jumps over progressively larger gorges or canyons. It’s a good thing that you have already had experience on the first three by the time you get to the fourth jump because you probably wouldn’t do it otherwise. It will offer however, perhaps the single most exciting moments you will have on your entire vacation. This tour is fun!
Wake Maui - is the only water ski or wake-board company on the island of Maui. Capt. Ryan Hickey is the founder, owner and operator. He hails from Montana but really seems to have made the transition to "island boy". His love of the outdoors and his entrepreneur spirit has placed him firmly on a wake board in an industry that just longed to be discovered on the island. If you like speed, jumps and excitement, you'll love this activity.
