Wailua River Guides
Some hikes on Kauai involve a bit of kayaking as well and this is true of the hike offered by the Wailua River Guides. The Wailua River is the largest and most navigable river in Kauai (as well as in the state of Hawaii). It winds its way deep into the exterior of the island in a forested area which is only accessible from the river itself. At this point the kayaks are parked on the river's edge and you will be able to hike a mile or a bit more into the deepest forests to your eventual destination at a jungle pool with an amazingly giant waterfall descending into it. Jumping into the cool refreshing mountain water is your reward for the effort and you will be treated to a picnic lunch to follow. When finished, your back on the trail reversing your previous steps through ancient Hawaiian taro patch walls and the jungle that was once the home of those who built them. From the river it will be a two-mile paddle back to the mouth of the Wailua River and your combination kayak/hike will be completed.
