Kauai Zipline tours and Kauai Tubing adventures. So what is a zipline tour anyway? Zipline tours are a fairly recent activity to appear on Kauai, but Kauai zip-line tours are certainly one of the most popular activities on the island and are often booked weeks in advance. Simply, Zipline is an aerial runway consisting of a pulley suspended on a cable that is mounted on an incline. Ziplines are designed to allow a seated and harnessed passenger to traverse valleys, gorges or drop-offs along an inclined cable by being attached to a freely moving pulley while using gravity as a motor. Professional zipline courses such as those found on Kauai are often operated at high speeds and can cover long distances at considerable heights with multiple zipline crossings included in the course. Kauai has a number of courses and they are breathtaking with regard to both the scenery and the zipline adventure itself. Tubing on Kauai is a different story. In the 1800's a series of “gravity flow” water carrying “flume” systems were created to carry water from the areas of Kauai that had extreme rains to the more arid areas used to grow sugar cane. These flume systems were a technological marvel at the time and are still used to transport water to this day. Often these flumes were burrowed through tunnels and over bridges in their gentle descent to the lower areas and traveled through some of the most beautiful and remote areas on the island with incredible views of the ocean, coastlines, mountains, forests and valleys. Today, these flumes are traversed via inner-tubes, or “tubes”, in one of the most unusual, exciting and beautiful tours you will ever encounter. Come join the fun, but be sure to book early as these tubing tours also can be booked weeks in advance. Here are the unique tours and unique activities available on Kauai: Just Live - is centrally located just 3 miles West of Lihue on Hwy 50 in a magnificent Norfolk Pine forest surrounded by thousands of acres of the beautiful and historic Grove Farm Sugar Plantation and the Halenanahu Reservoir. Kauai Backcountry Tubing Adventure - Traverse Lihue's old sugar cane plantation into Kauai's pristine emerald green interior and enjoy breathtaking vistas and spectacular scenery. Then, grab a tube, don a headlamp, and jump in for a leisurely cruise. Witness Kauai's spectacular engineering feats as you float down the tropical waterway consisting of open ditches, tunnels and flumes all of which were engineered and hand dug circa 1870. At the end of your tubing adventure, you will be guided to an enchanted picnic area for a great picnic lunch next to a natural swimming hole. Great for the entire family. Kauai Backcountry Zipline Adventure - Harness up and zip across valleys and gulleys. Soar over streams and view places more spectacular than you can ever imagine! An exclusive zip experience that occurs on private lands that have never before been open to the public. A 3 1/2 hour backcountry adventure will take you deep into and above Kauai's interior as you traverse down a mountain side into the lush valley below. Outfitters Kauai - The Zipline is designed, built and operated according to the highest safety standards as set by the ACCT (the Association for Challenge Course Technology). The setting is magnificent: a 1/4 mile foot trail through the jungle leads to a steep valley at the confluence of two streams with a 150 foot waterfall tumbling over fern covered black basalt boulders on one side and a lazy 80 foot wide tropical stream on the other. The steep terrain allows for a ground level launching platform that wraps a huge Banyan tree with a 30 ft diameter trunk. Princeville Ranch Adventures - offers hiking, kayak and zipping tours on its beautiful land. An exciting adventure experience on the pristine private lands of Princeville Ranch! The course is a combination of 8 picturesque ziplines and a suspension bridge spanning a waterfall. Imagine walking off the edge of a lush valley, flying over tree tops across to the other side, soaking in the gorgeous mountain views along the way. The tour includes an hour at a 35 foot deep, hidden swimming hole, fed by a small waterfall. Here you'll enjoy lunch, swimming, jumping, diving and floating on inner tubes. Wailua River Fern Grotto Cruise - The Wailua River winds its way through dense tropical growth and by areas rich in the history and legends of old Hawaii. The Wailua area itself was once royal grounds in the olden days and boat operators will share their fascinating stories while family members will entertain guests with Hawaiian songs. The destination of the cruise is the famous Fern Grotto. In this beautiful, tropical jungle setting, nature has formed a natural amphitheatre with acoustics that are remarkable.
