Island Adventures

The Island Adventures "Kauai River Kayak" is a kayak excursion that takes place on the beautiful Hulei'a River in the heart of the two-hundred-and-forty-one acre Hulei'a National Wildlife Refuge and State of Hawaii Conservation District. This Island Adventures tour is a unique one-way paddle downwind with a short, easy jungle hike and a fun swim at a pool with waterfalls. There are four endangered species of birds under the protection of the Wildlife Refuge. The river trip is the only access to this bird habitat and you'll find the experience both educational and exciting. And now you have the option of rappelling down one of the private waterfalls. This tour is suitable for all levels of kayaking and hiking experience and can be described as a "soft adventure" with an emphasis on cultural education. Wear your bathing suit or shorts and casual shoes that are ok to get wet. …

Jungle Falls Kayaking - Island Adventures

Description: Enjoy Kayaking, Hiking and RAPPELLING - This exclusive one-way paddle brings you into Hule'ia National Wildlife Refuge, home to some of Hawaii's native wetland birds and plants. See famous movie locations and historic sites such as the Alekoko (Menehune) Fishpond. At the end of your paddle, you will take a short 10-minute nature-walk along a forest trail to waiting air conditioned vans. Here guides will take you on a short van ride to your ultimate destination, two secluded, private waterfalls! At the trail head, you will be given bottled water and start your 15-minute jungle hike down a trail cut into the hillside. The forest is abundant with guava, passion fruit, laua'e fern, noni fruit and more. Your first stop will be at BAMBOO FALLS with nearly 30 foot falls. You can just take time to cool off and snap some keepsake pictures, before continuing on your trek to reach the spectacular 60 foot JUNGLE FALLS where you are free to swim beneath the cascading falls and laugh amid the lush landscape. After 30 minutes or so, dry off, gather your things and start the 15-minute hike back to the picnic area. Here you will wrap up your journey with a gourmet deli lunch in the shade of the "Picnic Hale" on a bluff overlooking the Hule'ia Valley. The drive back will stop at the fishpond lookout for another beautiful birds eye view of the river and the valley! Sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended. NEW - It's not zip lining, it's not rock climbing, it's RAPPELLING. Rappelling is a controlled descent down a rock face (in this case a waterfall) using a rope. This once in a lifetime experience is a thrilling way to get up close and personal with one of Kauai's most popular natural attractions. The expertly trained staff use the BEST gear and promote SAFETY first. Rappelling is available upon request at no additional cost… Just ask to explore the Discover Jungle Falls Survivor Route!
