Island Adventures
The Island Adventures "Kauai River Kayak" is a kayak excursion that takes place on the beautiful Hulei'a River in the heart of the two-hundred-and-forty-one acre Hulei'a National Wildlife Refuge and State of Hawaii Conservation District. This Island Adventures tour is a unique one-way paddle downwind with a short, easy jungle hike and a fun swim at a pool with waterfalls. There are four endangered species of birds under the protection of the Wildlife Refuge. The river trip is the only access to this bird habitat and you'll find the experience both educational and exciting. This tour is suitable for all levels of kayaking and hiking experience and can be described as a "soft adventure" with an emphasis on cultural education.
Jungle Falls Kayaking - Island AdventuresDescription: This exclusive one-way paddle brings you into Hule"ia National Wildlife Refuge, home to some of Hawaii"s native wetland birds and plants. See famous movie locations and historic sites such as the Alekoko (Menehune) Fishpond. At the end of your paddle, you will take a short 25-minute nature-walk along a forest trail to waiting air conditioned vans. Here guides will take you on a short van ride to your ultimate destination, two secluded, private waterfalls! At the trail head, you will be given bottled water and start your 10-minute jungle hike down a trail cut into the hillside. The forest is abundant with guava, passion fruit, laua"e fern, noni fruit and more. Your first stop will be at BAMBOO FALLS for a short break of pictures and cooling off. Next you will walk two minutes up the trail to the awesome 50 foot JUNGLE FALLS. After 30 minutes or so, dry off, gather your things and start the 15-minute hike back to the picnic area. Here you will wrap up your journey with a gourmet deli lunch in the shade of the "Picnic Hale" on a bluff overlooking the Hule"ia Valley.
