About Me
Since the age of twenty-four the only job I have ever known as been with Tom Barefoot's Tours. It's been a great experience and I have enjoyed stewarding the company through its various incarnations since its inception in 1975. I've been fortunate to have an interesting occupation and to be able to work with a "wild west" concoction of other Hawaii business owners over the course of years further adding to the interest of the job. The employees at Tom Barefoot's Tours are the best and are a pleasure to work with. Some of them have been with us for decades
Life for me these days is split between Tom Barefoot's Tours, volunteer work and my beautiful wife, Doreena. I volunteer at the Aromatherapy Foundation of Maui which is located on the property we own in Olinda, just above the town of Makawao at about the 3000' level. Here we grow aromatic crops which we share with the guests who visit our location. The Foundation has a teaching garden of approximately 900 prominently marked aromatic plants which visitors can wander through with their plant guide booklet and learn about the aromatic qualities and characteristics of each as they are encouraged to pinch the leaves and smell the distinctive odors emanating from these amazing plants. Distillation workshops are also offered at the Foundation, and many of the oils and floral waters from these distillations are on display at the Foundation's office and are also used in the treatments of the boutique spa that can also be found on the property. Keeping things running and looking beautiful up at the property is a big job that requires much of my time. I enjoy dividing the work I do, breaking up the work at Tom Barefoot's Tours with the time I spend at the Foundation.
