John Cook was born in the United Kingdom to a US military family but only lived there for 19 days. He first came to the Hawaiian Islands over 35 years ago and has spent most of that 35 years helping visitors find their way. According to family lore he has ancestral links to Capt. James Cook an English explorer who was the first European to make contact with the Hawaiian Islands.

John has personally met most of the owners of the 350 activity companies that Tom Barefoot’s Tours represents. If you’re looking for someone who knows the Islands, John is your man.

My name is Leslie Ferguson, and I am a 40 year resident of Maui. During my time here, I have traveled extensively to all of the other islands, Hawaii, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai and Lanai. I have gotten to know these islands and what activities they have to offer over the years, so I can definately be of help to you planning your dream Hawaiian vacation.

I was born in the beautiful rural town of Mendocino, California growing up amongst the redwoods and spending a lot of time outdoors exploring all that California had to offer. Jake Barefoot and I have been friends since childhood and when he was in California visiting his family we spent most days together riding mountain bikes and doing typical outdoor kid stuff. I spent a lot of time in Hawaii throughout my life visiting my family on Oahu and Jake on Maui. Hawaii has always been a big part of me and it was always a goal of mine to live here permanently.

Administration Staff

Our Administration Staff are the people that take care of the day-to-day duties that are required to keep Tom Barefoot’s Tours running. This team of incredible individuals is responsible for all of the “behind the scenes” duties that are required to keep our website online, our equipment working and our accounting all in order.

When I’m not at work one of my favorite things to do is to go to the beach and play with my black lab Holly Girl. When I'm not outside enjoying Hawaii I like to work with my computer. Since I was a kid I loved playing with electronics. I was one of those kids that you had a hard time pulling away from my video games. Since the beginning photography and making videos have been hobbies of mine. Somehow I managed to turn my hobby into a profession and most days I can be found out in the field making movies for Tom Barefoot's Tours website. On my days off, my cameras usually don’t get to rest, I can usually be found out and about making films of my own adventures. Aside from photography I also have a deep love for the ocean. Although I don’t find as much time for it as I did in the past, I love to surf, skimboard, fish, dive…..and just hang out with my friends at the beach.

Since the age of twenty-four the only job I have ever known as been with Tom Barefoot's Tours. It's been a great experience and I have enjoyed stewarding the company through its various incarnations since its inception in 1975. I've been fortunate to have an interesting occupation and to be able to work with a "wild west" concoction of business owners over the course of years further adding to the interest of the job. The employees at Tom Barefoot's Tours are the best and are a pleasure to work with. Some of them have been with us for decades.
