Hawaii Horseback Riding Adventures are Available on All Islands
Hawaii Horseback riding is a much more popular category of tours than you might expect. When looking over the state as a whole the category of horseback riding in Hawaii registers over twenty separate and distinct horseback riding companies. This predominance of Hawaii horseback tours is primarily due to two fundamental reasons: visitors to Hawaii absolutely love to go horseback riding, and the Hawaiian Islands are simply full to the brim with ranchland. As you may know, the Parker Ranch on the Big Island is the second largest ranch in the country second only to the King Ranch in Texas. Each island has its own expansive ranchland in many cases dating back to the 1800’s and today cattle ranching in Hawaii is still a viable business for some ranches. The ebb and flow of the ranching business in Hawaii over the past half-century has however trended toward cattle ranching not being as predominant an industry as in past years and consequently many of the ranches have attempted to substitute horseback riding tours in the place of cattle ranching in an effort to keep financially afloat. This impetus has created a large Hawaii horseback riding industry which has been continuously fed by the growing number of visitors who are all but willing to search out these stables and participate in their offerings.
There are Hawaii Horseback Riding Tours for Various Levels of Ability
Different types of Hawaii horseback riding experiences can be found on each island. Kauai has spectacular trips that are located at the foothills of the Hanalei Mountains in one of the most picturesque locations in all of Hawaii. Kauai also features Hawaii horseback rides that travel deep into the heart of the island and others that actually ride on the sand along the beach in the Poipu region. Not to be outdone by Kauai, Oahu also offers horseback riding on the beach in Hawaii along the North Shore of the island. Specialty horseback riding tours are also available on the North Shore which allow for romantic “couples only” rides. Maui’s laundry list of amazing Hawaii horseback rides includes a ride down into Maui’s majestic Haleakala Crater with a descent of 3000’ in elevation to the crater floor below. Numerous ranch rides are also available on Maui featuring very different types of terrain. Most of these rides are suitable for inexperienced riders but others provide riding opportunities for experienced riders that enjoy a good trot, canter and even a run. The Big Island has the largest ranch rides of all and in most cases provides for a more spread-out type of ride where the individual horses will fan out on the ranchland allowing for a more wide-open ranch experience.
