Parasailing on Hawaii

Parasailing on the Big Island of Hawaii is high excitement and is done virtually every week of the year as compared to its counterpart on Maui which closes for the Winter during the whale season. Flights can be either single or in tandem with a friend and the boats here make use of a winch system in which you are reeled out from a platform on the back of the boat and then reeled back in to a safe landing right back onto the boat. You'll never even get wet, unless you ask the captain for a "dunk and go" on the way down.

Parasailing on Maui

I parasail at least once a year in Maui. I can't help it. My son makes me go up with him and he loves it. The truth is, I love it too. Maybe it's the exhilaration of take-off, or the view from so high, or just the sense of soaring through the air and the age-old fantasy of flight. The experience is always exciting no matter how many times I do it. There's a certain stillness 'way up there where you can't hear the sound of the boat. All you feel is the rush of the warm Hawaiian air against your skin. It's peaceful up there. Real quiet. And the view.. All of our Maui parasailing trips leave from the Lahaina side. The view of the Lahaina Roadstead, the harbor and the boats at anchor, the West Maui Mountains and cane fields, the clouds above and the ocean below.. well, it's absolutely stunning.

Parasailing

Parasailing is a sport which makes use of a parachute being pulled by a speed boat. The parachutist is floated via a 400' to 800' pull rope and raises to heights of 400' to 500' above the ocean surface. Parasailers can either fly by themselves or be accompanied by another person and seated in tandem. Take-offs and landings are from the back of the parasail boat which makes use of a wench system to reel the parasail up into the Oahu sky.
