Na'alapa Stables
Na'alapa Stables on the Big Island of Hawaii actually has two separate locations where they offer horseback riding. One is on Kuhua Ranch in the Kohala region of the island and the other is in the beautiful Waipio Valley in the north-eastern part of the island. Kahua Ranch is a twelve-thousand acre working cattle ranch in North Kohala which is essentially rolling green pastureland and eucalyptus forest with forever views of the islands vast coastlines. Horseback riding with the cowboys of Na'alapa Stables on Kahua ranch is more like a range ride where all the horses spread out rather than follow each other head-to-tail. Here each rider is treated individually and allowed to ride at his own level and even canter the horses if they feel comfortable. The ride with Na'alapa in the Waipio Valley is more like riding through a jungle paradise with streams and waterfalls and once again, incredible views of the ocean but this time in a totally north-facing direction. The beauty of Waipio Valley almost defies description. The valley is known as the "valley of the kings" because it was home to so many of the ancient Hawaiian "alii" class. Riding horses here is like riding in the Garden of Eden. The valleys lush walls drop straight down two thousand feet in places to the pounding surf of the north shore.
