| Description: One of the most exhilarating excursions a visitor to Kona can experience is a snorkel/swim encounter with Hawaii dolphins. These dolphin encounters are designed to place you in the water in the vicinity of a pod of spinner dolphins to observe them in their natural habitat. Travel north along the Kona Coast until you come upon a pod of dolphins. After a period of observation to see behaviors the dolphins exhibit, if it looks good for a swim, you will gear up and slip into the water. During the months of December to April, it is not uncommon to observe Humpback whales and their calves. The permanent resident mammals along the Kona Coast include Pilot Whales, False Killer Whales, Pigmy False Killer Whales, Beaked Whales, Spotted and Bottlenose Dolphins. Mellonhead Whales and occasionally, Sperm Whales and a Whale Shark is spotted.
