Hawaiian Walkways
Hawaiian Walkways is the original hiking company on the Big Island of Hawaii. Hawaiian Walkways was founded by Dr. Hugh Montgomery in 1984 and he is still the Quality Assurance Manager of the company. Mr. Montgomery is well known for his work with several local environmental organizations and has testified before the U.S. Congress with regard to Hawaii's first national hiking trail known as the Alakahakai. His wife, Kaulana, is a Hawaiian dancer and is immersed in and well versed in the culture and traditions of old Hawaii. Together they have put together one of the most highly respected hiking and tour companies on the Big Island and in Hawaii. All Hawaiian Walkway hiking guides are CPR and First Aid Certified and they all have extensive, though varied, experience on the Big Island with various disciplines. They take care to match your interests and abilities with the varied itineraries offering the convenience of their experience with arrangements, equipment and routes, they provide a satisfying sense of connection with nature and with Hawaii's lore. They do regular trips with a variety of hiking routes into a number of different parts of the Island. | Description: Hike in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park where you are immersed in the fantastic terrain, microclimates, dynamic geology and flora of Kilauea Volcano. This unique terrain cannot be found anywhere else in the entire world. Huge craters, steaming vents and molten lava (when access is feasible) are among the possibilities here on the youngest and most active of the Island"s five volcanoes. Trail routes here range from an easy "sampler" to hard-core 14 mile adventures. The usual amount is about 6 miles. Lunch is provided. It is offered as a day tour from 10:00am to 4:30pm or as an afternoon/evening from 1:00 to 7:30pm, it finishes at sunset at the Jaggar Museum for incandescence viewing of the summit eruption.

| Description: This 1.5 mile hike is available by custom arrangement only. A surprisingly short distance from busy Kailua-Kona is a rich forest on the slopes of the sleeping volcano called Hualalai. There we find a private and very special sanctuary that nurtures plants, birds, and the human spirit with its peaceful isolation. As you move quietly through native forest, amid tree ferns, blossoms and different varieties of bamboo from around the world, the cool air soothes your senses, delight in the songs of birds, and the thousand shades of green the forest displays.

| Description: This hike is customized to the participants of the day, individualized distance and rating. Easy walks or moderately strenuous hikes are available in this special area; this road is closed to most rental cars. The "saddle" features a range of terrain including historic-era lava flows pocketed with ancient forests, which are home to numerous native birds. Hikers love these areas and they have special attractions for birders and photographers.

| Description: This is a wonderful sightseeing tour with easy walking explorations to little visited yet accessible waterfalls and coastal areas. Scenic old roads wind along towering cliffs and rainforest streams taking you toward magnificent Waipio Valley - the largest valley on the Island of Hawaii. If you like shopping, or sweets, you will enjoy a walk through the heritage town of Honoka"a. Here you will find charming old-style storefronts (and some great coffee and ice cream shops). Back on tour, stop at Laupahoehoe Point with its spectacular shoreline and tragic history; and at several beautiful waterfalls, including Akaka Falls and Umauma Falls, which has amazing botanical gardens.
