The Princeville Ranch Stables is one of Kauai's most beautiful places to take a horseback ride. When you're talking about the Princeville Ranch Stables, you're talking about "history". The Princeville Ranch is one of the oldest working cattle ranches in Hawaii and the ranch's historical roots pre-date those of the American Old West. Its beginning was in 1831 when British Consul, Richard Charlton, who was an advisor to King Kamehameha ll leased this land from the Hawaiian Kingdom and brought in one-hundred longhorns from California to start-up the ranch. The ranch still has cattle today but also offers magnificent horseback trail rides that wind their way along some of the most beautiful landscapes in Hawaii. You can choose rides that take you to ocean-side bluffs with views of the largest reef in Hawaii, the historic Kilauea Lighthouse and "Makana" which was made famous as Bali Hai in the movie South Pacific or rides that take you to a stream and waterfall with the back-drop of the stunning Hanalei Mountains in the background. However you choose to have your experience you'll be delighted with the result at the Princeville Ranch Stables. | Description: The Lokahi (Harmony) Ride begins with centering and stretching, followed by more stretching together with your horse. As you ride across a working cattle ranch, your guide will share breathing and communication techniques, deepening the rider-horse bond. Next you will stop at a special hidden location for more yoga plus a healthy snack. After soaking up the sweeping scenery, you'll mount up to ride back across the ranch. | Description: Ride a Horse and Zip Adventure - Saddle up for a leisurely paced 30 minute horseback ride across secluded valleys. Your guide will share ranch and cowboy history along with flora and fauna inforation with you. Next, tie up your horse and get ready to glide like a bird on 3 fun, fast zip lines! You'll step off the edge of a valley and soar over tree tops to the other side. Your final zip line is called the "Big Kahuna", because at 700 feet long, it's a big thrill! This unqiue adventure wraps up with another peaceful 30 minute horseback ride back to the stables. Riding is about one hour at beginner level (walking only). The 3 zip lines are: 410, 560 and 700 feet long and for approximately 1.5 hours.
Departure Point: Princeville Ranch Hiking Adventures Office one mile past the Princeville Airport on the ocean side of Kuhio Hwy 56 (just past the 27 mile marker) follow the signs.

Duration: 1 hour horseback riding, 1.5 hours zipping for about 2.5 hours total.

| Description: This unique adventure begins with 30 minutes on horseback, soaking up panoramic views of mountains, valleys and the ocean. After tying up the horses, venture into lush tropical rainforest, hiking along a trail with steps and rope handholds. Explore an 80 foot waterfall and swim in the fern-lined pool then enjoy a delicious picnic lunch and relax. Hike back up to your horse along a different trail with a short rock climb, several stream crossings and another waterfall. Your adventure ends with a leisurely ride back across open pastures. The hike is rated moderate to difficult, with some steep up and down 10 foot rock wall climb and feet immersed in two stream crossings. Tours go out rain or shine!
